Damijan Mocnik graduated from Ljubljana Academy of Music where he studied composition Dane Skerl and furthered his conducting skills abroad with Eric Ericsson. Since 1993 he has served as music professor, conductor, and head of music at St. Stanislav’s Institution, Ljublijana. He conceived a “choral pyramid” that remains important in Slovenian choral life. Over the last 30 years, he has won many awards with his choirs, especially St. Stanislav Youth Choir and Megaron Chamber choir. He is the founder and artistic leader of Slovenian Children’s choir. Mocnik participates in expert councils at choral events, lectures at symposiums, and is a juror at home and abroad. He is among the most performed contemporary Slovenian composers abroad. His music is performed worldwide by professional and top amateur choirs, and has been recorded on numerous albums. Here the St. Jacobs Kammarkor Stokholm, under the direction of Gary Graden and in collaboration with the composer himself, present this release with five of Mocnik’s sacred choral works, supported by a strings ensemble from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the two percussionists Anders Astrand and Henrik Stahlberg.
