The latest release of the label RELIEF is a recording done by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk of Lortzing‘s Die beiden Schützen (The Two Shooters) from the year 1951. With this work, which premiered in Leipzig in 1837, Lortzing was able to celebrate his final breakthrough as an opera composer. Even when listening to the first tracks, it is clear how outstanding the recording is. Especially the soloists, Ursula Richter and Heinrich Pflanzl, are, together with the Mitteldeutsches Rundfunkorchester under Herbert Haarth, the ideal interpreters of this comic opera in three acts. The Mitteldeutsches Rundfunkorchester was founded in January 1923 in Leipzig. Apart from their broadcasting pause during the Second World War, the ensemble has been the largest sound body and permanent representative of the Central German Broadcasting Corporation and the Leipzig Broadcasting Corporation since 1924.
