MEWE is an album about reflection, relationships, widespread views, freedom and self-sufficiency. A thoughtful vagueness permeates this recording and leaves the listener with both a sense of restlessness and something peaceful, while adding a dimension of surrealism. MEWE is Anna Lundqvist's fifth quintet recording. This album also features guitarist Krister Jonsson; cellist Stina Larsdotter; and vibraphonist Tobias Hedlund. This is departure from Anna's previous albums, as the completely acoustic and well-known jazz sound is nearly gone. Lyrics are abandoned and the voice plays an "instrumental" roll, blending with the others in the group. Guest musicians, digital and electronic elements creates an edge to the quintet's already established sound. Anna's compositions have been developing and more noticably drawing influence from modern classical, art and baroque music. All musicians play a part in leading the group as the lead vocals are now among the collective space of it all. Anna wants to deviate from the firm traditions, rules and standards of the vocal jazz concept to create something unique.
