Mozart's special affection for the clarinet found heartfelt expression in one of his last works, the Concerto in A major. Sabine Meyer performs it, as the composer intended, on the deeper-pitched basset clarinet. "The music is so simple, so easy, and let so deep emotionally - like a religion", she has said. Like the Quintet K. 581, the Clarinet Concerto was originally written for basset clarinet, a now obsolete instrument especially designed by Stadler with an extended lower register. Although the autograph score is lost (the earliest surviving edition is a 19th-century adaptation for standard clarinet), many modern-day clarinettists have made guesses as to how Mozart originally wrote the clarinet part, based on the composer's surviving sketches. One of the first to explore the concerto on a modern reconstruction of a basset clarinet was Sabine Meyer. German-born Meyer's successful career as soloist and chamber musician has always had Mozart at it's core. Her many recordings to date include acclaimed accounts of the Clarinet Quintet, numerous serenades, and two versions of the much-loved Clarinet Concerto. Completing the album is the exquisite Sinfonia concertante in E-flat with it's quartet of soloists.

Oiseaux Tristes is the title of Fazil Say's new recital album, it follows the ongoing project Morning and Evening. Repertoire is French: Fran�ois Couperin Pi�ces de clavecin, Livre 4 - Vingt-(et)-uni�me Ordre (XXI) in E minor, Claude Debussy Suite bergamasque, CD, L. 75, Maurice Ravel, Miroirs, M. 43. He considers Ravel's Miroirs one of the most interesting and comprehensive works in the piano repertoire. He spent months with the piece, finding it difficult to play, but at the same time appreciates it's powerful and unusual side. Fran�ois Couperin's Suite No. 21 in E minor was recommended to him by a friend in Istanbul who is a violinist, and Fazil subsequently adapted it for the piano.

Taking it's title, Nessun Dorma, from the greatest tenor hit of them all, Pene Pati's second album balances favourite numbers with operatic rarities - two of them in world premiere recordings. In addition to Puccini, the Italian composers are Verdi, Donizetti, Mascagni and Mercadante, while the French school is represented by Berlioz, Meyerbeer, Gounod, Massenet, Hal�vy and Guiraud. Joining the Samoan tenor on the album are his soprano wife, Amina Edris, his tenor brother Amitai Pati, conductor Emmanuel Villaume, the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the Choeur de l'Op�ra National de Bordeaux. In the words of the Telegraph, Pene Pati possesses an "extraordinary gift for producing a golden thread of sound that can swell without strain to magnificence," while Opera magazine has lauded his "distinctively clear, marvellously sunny timbre, innate musicality and exceptionally vivid textual projection". For the tenor himself, Nessun Dorma "showcases my love of the art of storytelling and the emotions it can elicit... As you listen to the album, I hope it takes you on an emotional journey."

French star trumpet player Lucienne Renaudin Vary releases Jardins d'Hiver, a relaxed and laid back winter album. Lucienne's idea for Winter Gardens was to recreate a cozy atmosphere, as if she invites her fans to a hygge home concert. Repertoire includes: Blane Ralph, Martin Hugh, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, perfect for Christmas playlisting, Antonin Dvor�k: Slavonic Dance Op. 72, Johann Sebastian Bach: Badinerie. All tracks arranged for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra. Album was recorded with Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, conducted by Sascha Goetzel.

Three CD set. The first things that come to mind when you think of Cuba? Cigars, colorful vintage cars... and sultry, sensual music. The three-album compilation The Sound of Cuba captures the spirit of authentic music from the island nation. The collection also features the iconic album Casa de la Trova - Santiago de Cuba's answer to Havana's Buena Vista Social Club! In 1999, Havana-born guitarist Manuel Barrueco made a tribute to his homeland with the album Cuba! Featuring such greats as Ernesto Lecuona, H�ctor Angulo, and Leo Brouwer, the release enjoys legendary status as a Cuban music classic. The child prodigy, pianist and bandleader Ernesto Lecuona, known as the 'South American Gershwin', created an oeuvre of more than 600 melodies, all infused with that irresistible Cuban flavor and rhythm. He takes center stage on the 1999 piano album Habanera, with Kathryn Stott interpreting his music. On this album the English pianist brings Lecuona, who died in 1963 and who had been long forgotten in the West, to a new public falling under the spell of his lively music. With music from the renowned Casa de la Trova, The Sound of Cuba box set brings the listener right to the heart of Cuban music. It was here in Santiago de Cuba with the Trova singers and guitarists that the country's vibrant music-making culture emerged. This became the root of many other Latin-American styles that spread all over the world.

Several of the recordings on this disc date from 1960, when Otto Klemperer celebrated his 75th birthday and Wieland Wagner, the composer's grandson, saluted the conductor as "a unique artistic phenomenon". Klemperer's mastery of Wagner's music was rooted in the early years of his career: by the age of 30 he had conducted performances of Lohengrin, Der fliegende Holl�nder, Tannh�user, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Die Meistersinger von N�rnberg, Parsifal and Tristan und Isolde. "The performances on these records are all superbly played and recorded. Klemperer is a great Wagner conductor, probably the greatest in the world." Gramophone The German-born conductor Otto Klemperer, a towering figure in the musical history of the 20th century, died at the age of 88 on July 8th 1973, so 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of his death. His complete recordings on Warner Classics catalogue are being made available for the first time in 2 huge separate boxes; the first volume with the Symphonic Works, Concertos & Lieder (95CD) will be released in June 2023. Maria Callas is credited with changing the history of opera. Known as La Divina, she continues to fascinate as a supreme artist, but also as a woman and an icon of style. Her interpretations were as compelling for their dramatic truth as for their musical integrity. Her voice, with it's extraordinary range, was as distinctive as her infallible sense for a phrase. A magnetic presence, she brought operatic heroines to vivid life, magically shaping and colouring her tone, and making insightful use of the text of the libretto.

The release of this 61-disc box (58CDs and 3 DVDs) coincides with the 50th anniversary of the death of David Oistrakh, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century - and indeed of all time. Born in Odesa (now in Ukraine) in 1908, he died while on tour, in Amsterdam, on 24th October 1974. The box contains - On 27 CDs: the entirety of David Oistrakh's Warner Classics studio catalogue (originally recorded for Columbia & HMV), newly remastered in HD from the original tapes and in packaging that uses the original LP artwork. On 31 CDs: live recordings and studio recordings from the early period of Oistrakh's career and from his post-War years of international celebrity. One-third of these items are world premieres and a number of them are CD premiere releases. All the recordings have been remastered from the best available sources. On 3 DVDs: DVDs 1 & 2: Performances (in the concert hall and radio/television studio), filmed in Moscow, of concertos and recital repertoire; presented for DVD by film/TV director and Oistrakh expert Bruno Monsaingeon. DVD 3: David Oistrakh - Artist of the People? A 1996 documentary, directed by Bruno Monsaingeon, examining Oistrakh's life. It includes interviews with his son Igor Oistrakh, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich and Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
