Leif Ove Andsnes is a leading pianist of his time, known for his exceptional musicianship and subtil touch, his considerable technical flair being unfailingly put at the service of his interpretations. He was a pioneer for being the first home-trained superstar pianist to have emerged from Norway. This box is the story of a 20-year partnership that has yielded a rich seam of recorded treasures, first for Virgin and then for EMI. Running through this cornucopia of 34 albums (36 CDs), we find recurring themes: Grieg (Andsnes even recorded some Lyric Pieces on the composer's own piano at Troldhaugen), Nordic music in general, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Schubert.

The nine Beethoven Symphonies are considered to be one of the greatest musical testaments of all time and are a key staple in every conductor's repertoire. The members of the Alban Berg Quartett learned and refined their art at the very heart of the Viennese musical tradition. They have recorded twice Beethoven's Complete String Quartets, the first time in studio from 1978 to 1983 at the Evangelische Kirche in Seon (Switzerland), and the second time at concerts in June 1989, at the Mozart-Saal of the Konzerthaus in Vienna (Austria). This second version is offered for the very first time in a vinyl clamshell box and as a limited edition. In these transcendent live performances, the ABQ rise to the challenge of the complex and ambitious works that stand at the summit of the chamber repertoire. To their trademark Polish, finesse and intellectual penetration, the ABQ adds, where appropriate, a wildness and dangerous energy that is both exciting and characteristically Beethovenian.

Claudio Abbado had only made a very few recordings for EMI Classics (now Warner), including Mozart's Flute Concertos with Emmanuel Pahud. This live rendition of Verdi's Messa da Requiem is definitively a major modern version of the work. In 2001, Abbado was doing his. In 2001, Claudio Abbado was soon to complete his tenure as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker, when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer not long before. Nonetheless, he was able to conduct this Verdi Requiem during two concerts that held a special significance, offering us a remarkable modern interpretation of the work. It featured an outstanding quartet of soloists, three of the world's most renowned choirs, and Berlin's iconic orchestra. "EMI was quite right to be on hand to record this performance in Berlin at a time when Abbado had arisen from his sick-bed to show just how much this work meant to him in the circumstances. It's conveyed in spades through the tremendous concentration and emotional thrust felt throughout this shattering interpretation. This performance has something extra that you find in Fricsay's live, 1960 account, and both come close to the spiritual element in the music. Abbado has at his bidding a superb group of specialist choirs who combine effortlessly into a cohesive whole, singing with commendable breadth, accuracy and involvement, few if any better on disc. They find fit counterparts in the players of the BPO who seem individually, in solos, and collectively intent on giving of their appreciable best for their chief. So all the big choral moments, Dies Irae, Rex tremendae, Sanctus, Libera me fugue are superbly achieved. EMI's recording is wide-ranging and immediate, the equal of any the work has yet received. If the solo singing can't be given such an unqualified encomium, much of it is impressive, especially that of the young mezzo Daniela Barcellona, even in tone and beseeching in manner. Gheorghiu does so much so well: she sings throughout in that rich, warm tone of hers and offers many long, arching phrases. She's also as dramatic as one could wish in the Libera me (...). Alagna sings with a deal of passion and authority. (...) Given it's superlative sound and special circumstances, [it] is an important addition to the work's discography." Taking it's title, Nessun Dorma, from the greatest tenor hit of them all, Pene Pati's second album balances favourite numbers with operatic rarities - two of them in world premiere recordings. In addition to Puccini, the Italian composers are Verdi, Donizetti, Mascagni and Mercadante, while the French school is represented by Berlioz, Meyerbeer, Gounod, Massenet, Halevy and Guiraud. Joining the Samoan tenor on the album are his soprano wife, Amina Edris, his tenor brother Amitai Pati, conductor Emmanuel Villaume, the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the Choeur de l'Opera National de Bordeaux. For the very first time, the complete studio recordings made by the iconic conductor Carlo Maria Giulini for Columbia and HMV have been remastered in high definition from original tapes and put together in a 60-CD box. This wide-ranging collection provides a comprehensive testimony of Carlo Maria Giulini's collaborations with London's most distinguished orchestras, his beloved Philharmonia Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic, later recordings made during his legendary partnership with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a few others with the orchestras from la Scala, the Royal Opera House, la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire or the Wiener Symphoniker.

This landmark album, originally released as Columbia 33CX 1415, features David Oistrakh in two cornerstone works: Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata and Mozart's Violin Sonata in B-flat major, K. 454. Long recognized for it's interpretive depth and technical brilliance, the recording has become a collector's item. Available for the first time on vinyl in stereo, this album benefits from the 2024 remastering from the original tapes made for the Oistrakh / The Warner Classics Edition box. As a bonus, the release includes Debussy's Clair de lune, taken from Oistrakh's Encores album.

The world's longest running musical is celebrating it's 40th anniversary on October 8, 2025. To mark this event, we're re-releasing the recording of the 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall on First Night Records. This first-ever release on LP has been remastered and compiled for 2 LP vinyl especially by Sir Cameron Mackintosh and his team. The full recording on 2 CDs is also being reissued. A gifted singer and a brilliant multi-instrumentalist - with a legendary mastery of the recorder - David Munrow was a transformative force in early music. In 1967, alongside Christopher Hogwood, he founded the Early Music Consort of London, an ensemble that would redefine historical performance. His prolific discography on Warner Classics and Nonesuch remains a treasure trove of reference recordings, testifying to his immense virtuosity, eclecticism, and pioneering spirit. When he died in May 1976, at only thirty-three, Munrow left behind a recorded legacy that, in it's breadth and significance, rivalled - and in some respects surpassed - that of far more senior figures. His output ranged from the twelfth century to the high Baroque and the great vocal masterpieces of the Renaissance - with occasional forays into the twentieth century. A world-class director and a compulsive collector of instruments from around the globe, Munrow brought ancient sounds vividly to life with an infectious energy that continues to resonate today.

Martha Argerich has been described as "unquestionably one of the greatest pianists of all time". She recorded this recital in 1965, shortly after her victory in the prestigious Chopin Competition, but it only became available in 1999. "Argerich was quite the most formidable player we had ever come across," said the album's producer, Suvi Raj Grubb, "Nothing would have been beyond this woman." All this adds up to a recording that is indeed legendary, and now fully newly remastered in HD 192kHz/24-bit from original tapes.

Sir Charles Mackerras was a towering figure in the world of classical music - renowned for his versatility, meticulous scholarship, and electrifying performances as principal conductor of the English National Opera and a frequent guest conductor with leading orchestras and opera companies worldwide. Mackerras was particularly celebrated for bringing a revelatory freshness to familiar scores through his deep understanding of period performance practices and original manuscripts. This set covers a substantial part of his recorded legacy, ranging over half a century, from his debut on record in 1951 to his finest later recordings.
