Just over sixty years passed between the first book of Claude Debussy’s "Preludes" and "Makrokosmos I" by George Crumb, and yet they seem to be related to each other. "In addition to the general form, the two cycles originate from the same sacral vision of the cosmos and the same Pandean feeling: that of Debussy’s earthly, Crumb’s celestial." says Enrico Belli, the pianist of these recordings. "They are united by the nostalgia of myth; it is the return to the primordial, in opposition to civilization and technological progress; it is the awakening of the faun." The performance proceeds by alternating single pieces from the two cycles, favoring a spiral process of similitudes and contrasts: an attempt to highlight the connections between the two composers. "I was most impressed by the superb quality of his playing, in terms both of technical brilliance and interpretive insight! The idea of alternating the pieces of the two cycles is incredibly imaginative." George Crumb (on Enrico Belli and his CD "Primeval Sounds")
