On this release, accordion virtuoso Teodoro Anzellotti dedicates himself to harpsichord pieces that he selected personally. Born in Apulia in southern Italy, Teodoro Anzellotti grew up near Baden-Baden. He pursued his accordion studies at the Hochschulen in Karlsruhe and Trossingen and quickly achieved victories at various international competitions. Since the 1980s he has been a regular guest at the major festivals and with leading orchestras. Teodoro Anzellotti has successfully contributed to integrating the accordion into the sphere of classical music. This has occurred principally through his service to New Music: through his development of performing techniques he has enlarged the tone-color capabilities and sonic profile of his instrument. More than 300 new works have been written for Teodoro Anzellotti, by composers such as George Aperghis, Brice Pauset, Heinz Holliger, Toshio Hosokawa, Mauricio Kagel, Michael Jarrell, Isabel Mundry, Gerard Pesson, Matthias Pintscher, Wolfgang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino, Marco Stroppa, J�rg Widmann und Hans Zender. Luciano Berio created for him his Sequenza XIII, which Mr. Anzellotti premiered in Rotterdam in 1995 and subsequently performed at major festivals worldwide. Since 1987 he has taught at the Hochschule der K�nste Bern, and since 2002 at the Musikhochschule Freiburg i'm Breisgau as well. His discography embraces a spectrum reaching from Bach and Scarlatti to Jan�cek and Satie to John Cage and Matthias Pintscher.

Istanbul is the interface between orient and occident. The noises and urban sounds in connection with Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish and Macedonian songs as well as nomad chants belong to the culture of Istanbul like the centuries old architecture in the city. Some notable artists featured on this album include Volkan Yilmaz, who was born in Istanbul and studied at the Istanbul Conservatory under Fuat Tukelman and Salih Bilgin and began his career as a soloist at the radio station Istabul TRT, Gulay Diri, who was born in Southern Turkey where semi-nomadic people continue their lifestyle and she was influenced by their folk music, and Muammer Ketencoglu, who is an internationally renowned musician and one of the foremost Turkish artists performing today. These are folk songs, modern compositions, nomadic chants, and improvisations, all brought together to paint an aural portrait of this ancient city.

Book of Flames and Shadows is a continuous sequence of music lasting about an hour, incorporating two pieces by James Weeks (*1978) and madrigals by Jacques Arcadelt (1507-68). It's theme is the awakening, of the sensual and erotic power of the spoken word, and it's transformation into song, through the love poetry of Petrarch (1304-74) and his later imitators, including Pietro Bembo (1470-1547). A music of beginnings, of brief glances and tentative flowerings, planted in Italian Renaissance soil: looking back to the reticent, emerging expressivity of the earliest madrigals; to the attuning of lyric poetry to vocal sound in Petrarch; and to the way these new-old powers enable the artist to trace with more electric precision the contours of desire.

WINTER & WINTER conceives a canon of the most extraordinary piano works of world literature performed by the unique French artist Jean-Pierre Collot. After Hans Abrahamsen's "Schnee" (with ensemble recherche), the album "Universe" (Claude Debussy in dialogue with Salvatore Sciarrino), "Espaces Imaginaires" (with premiere recordings of Jean Barraque's masterpieces) now the Goethe texts Restless Love, An Schwager Kronos, Meeresstille, Erlk�nig and Gretchen am Spinnrade inspire the composers Hugues Dufourt and Schubert/Liszt to dedicate themselves to Sturm und Drang, a German movement of the late 18th century that exalted nature, feeling, and human individualism and sought to overthrow the Enlightenment cult of Rationalism. Goethe and Schiller began their careers as prominent members of the movement.
