The Norwegian pianist LIV Glaser turns 80 on September 23rd 2015. Simax Classics has prepared a 'best of' release with LIV on the fortepiano - including a big section of new recordings of gorgeous waltzes by Schubert, Schumann and Ravel. "Mozart has a clearly justified place; after all he 'kicked' me into starting to play the fortepiano, and has been my companion since I was a child! In addition, tidbits from other impassioned company - Clementi, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Ravel and Grieg - not to forget my music-loving friends Helene, Per and little brother Ernst Simon. We have played and experienced together in rich co-existence! When the idea hit us to put together a fortepiano 'cavalcade' we could not resist seasoning it with some recent material. The Ravel-waltzes will for me personally always be linked to Paris and my beloved teacher Vlado Perlemuter who studied all Ravel's works with the composer. Schubert - who composed a countless number of waltzes - was Ravel's source of inspiration. Brahms of course loved Schubert, as well as edited some of his late works, which thereby gives CD II a Viennese leitmotif." - Live Glaser
