Bach: Das Notenbuchlein Der / Maddox, Schmithüsen
For generations of piano students, the little music book for Anna Magdalena Bach gave them their first taste of success, but it is not a musical poetry album, rather a unique document of music-making in the Bach household. James Maddox has recorded the 1725 music book in it's entirety for the first time on a modern grand piano. Ingrid Schmithüsen takes over the vocal part in the vocal pieces. The Australian pianist James Maddox studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Nikolai Evrov and in Italy with Alexander Lonquich and Edoardo Strabbioli. He performs chamber music, accompanies vocal recitals and appears as soloist across Europe, in Asia and Australia. He has wide experience as an orchestral pianist, playing regularly with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, the Gürzenich Orchester Köln and the Bochumer Symphoniker. He feels at home at the celeste and the harpsichord and is fascinated by historical fortepianos. He has worked with composers such as Krysztof Penderecki, Jörg Widmann, Peter Eötvös, Beat Furrer and Graeme Koehne.
