Violinist Jonas Båtstrand has already recorded Hjalmar Borgstrøm's magnificent violin concerto; now the complete chamber music for violin and piano is ready for release. His remarkable melodic gifts were much in evidence on prior Simax Borgstrøm releases, and he certainly makes full use of it in his chamber music. It is possible to discern his influences from Wagner and R. Strauss. One hears Borgstrøm"s passion for the late romantic tone poem in the G Major Sonata. Contemporary counterpoint is present in the small, atmospheric pieces. This is the intimate music for the home.
