1940 to 1951 were privileged years in the Delta. Three styles of blues were being sung - the oldest form was still present through the genre’s great creators such as Son House, Bukka White and Big Joe Williams. The second was played the young bluesmen who used the foundations as set down by the ‘elders’ but slowly modernised them (including Muddy Waters, Honeyboy Edwards, Johnny Shines, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf). Finally, the third style turned towards other forms of black music which were less regional but more modern and commercial (B.B. King, Willie Love, Ike Turner). This 2-CD boxed edition covers the Delta blues during this decisive decade. Includes a 32 page booklet with both French and English notes.
