The Violin Concerto was first performed in London in 1910 with Fritz Kreisler as the violinist. Korean violinist Dong-Suk Kang seems to have the same ardent spirit here in this fine recording! The great B minor concerto is also given justice in a uniform and well balanced recording. Adrian Leaper gives a mini-impersonation of Adrian Boult in a reading that is sympathetic but never dawdling or sentimental. Kang was a child prodigy and graduated from the Curtis Institute, arguably the toughest, most prestigious music school in the world. He plays with force, technique, and accomplished musicianship.
