The cardle of violin playing stands in Italy from where Fermany was influenced by masters like Carlo Farina, who in his rather short life appeared at the courts of Parma, Lucca, Modena as well as in Cologne, Prague and Dresden, Vienna and Danzig. He spent his most creative time at the court of the Saxonian electorate George I in Dresden. During his time he published all his known works in five collections. The selection from these works presented on this recording splendidly documents the violin technique of the time. Farina not only influenced the great German violinists of his time but also of later generations with names like Schmeltzer, Biber or Walther. Leila Schayegh's recordings were rewarded twice with the Diapason d'Or of the Year and others like the Gramophone Editor's Choice. Her virtuoso and lively playing on this album will give the listener an idea of the enormous impression Farina left behind.
