The majority of the compositions on this album come from the library of the Portuguese synagogue in Amsterdam. Built in 1675 by Jewish immigrants from Spain and Portugal then escaping the inquisition, the synagogue fostered an amazing blend of Hebrew text and baroque music. + Founded in 1992, the Netheerlands-based Apollo Ensemble performs all over the world in many leading festivals and major concert halls. + David Rabinovich is its Artistic Director.
