La Porte de Felicite: Constantinople 1453, entre Orient et Occident
- Zig-Zag Territoires
- October 9, 2012
Even before the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Genoese maintained a fortified trading base on Galata Hill beyond the Golden Horn. In the course of time, it developed more and more into the center of European embassies and trading posts. From then on, the city at the interface between the Occident and the Orient became a place where the different cultures also met musically. The recording aims to trace this encounter, for example when Galata's Italian piffari with their Renaissance oboes took up the repertoire of the janissaries with the characteristic sound of the Ottoman oboe. The fact that a meeting can still be fruitful and extremely stimulating today is demonstrated in this recording by the incredible creativity of the musicians involved.
