Pianist Manfred Reuthe was born in Berlin. After winning a special prize in the Fifth International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw he toured 11 countries in western and eastern Europe and made radio and television recordings for numerous Central European broadcasters. He was just 17 years of age when he played Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor with the Berlin Philharmonic. Since 1973 Reuthe spent a total of eight years working as a professor for piano in South Korea and he taught at the Berlin University of the Arts for 15 years. In 1975 he was made a full professor at the Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea, which hosts lecturers from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His recital programmes are particularly centered around the virtuosic Romantic sound poetry written by the likes of Chopin, Liszt, Schumann and Carl Maria von Weber and the French impressionist era, championed by Debussy, Ravel and Messiaen.
