Well known for his film scores, composer Michael Nyman (b. 1944) has a clear grasp of a compositional style that, while his works are inextricably connected to film, they are also able to stand on their own. Nyman’s film score for “The Piano” became an instant classic. The pieces on this album were either composed specifically for piano, or have been arranged for solo piano by the composer. Jeroen van Veen has been a fan of Nyman’s music for his entire life, so the decision to perform the works on this album was a logical step.
