This is some of the earliest surviving music for lute. Sandro Volta, already recognized as a specialist in lute music from the Renaissance period, plays these works with sobriety, but also with sensitivity toward their vocal qualities. He captures the spirit of the era very well, when music for the lute was budding and not yet at full bloom.
