In the early 80s, the pianist Charles Loos together with French guitarist Serge Lazarevitch, created the Sava quintet. Aesthetically, the group’s ECM feel stood out from other Belgian groups of the time, and led them to play extensively in festivals across Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. “Overtly space music (without being vacuous), impressionistic and off-best rhythms, contained lyricism, melodies with unabashedly European colors, genuinely jazzy roots that are constantly transformed and transmuted through incessant multi-directional exploration.” (J. P. Schroeder) The quintet’s first album, Sava, was the first release on the LDH label in 1981. It is being re-released to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
