Once an ornamental hermit, Friedrich Lichtenstein has become in his golden years a German media darling. After shocking success in a web-only advertisement for a German supermarket chain, Lichtenstein skyrocketed into fame. This biographical film by Jan Schmidt-Garre explores the life of this artist, actor, chansonnier, and utopist. From his early career as a cook, to his degree in puppetry, to his 2000 theater production “Afternoon Sleep”- a piece in which the audience climbed into a bed and took a nap- this film shows a multifaceted and talented artist to the world. Jan Schmidt-Garre studied feature film direction at Munich’s Hochschule fur Fernsehen und Film from 1984-1988. After graduating, he founded PARS Media, a production company whose films have received international acclaim for its documentary and feature films focusing on music and the arts.
