Symphonic Works
Joseph Rheinberger (1839-1901) was a prolific composer of the Romantic era who started his career very early: When only seven years old Rheinberger became organist at his home church at Vaduz, Liechtenstein, and his first composition was performed the following year. He composed a lot of sacred music and choral works but also several operas, symphonies and chamber music. Today he is remembered almost exclusively for his elaborate and challenging organ compositions. This double CD presents Rheinberger's extensive but nearly unknown symphonic work - his large tone painting Wallenstein op. 10 (c. one hour playing time!), two symphonic works for male choir and orchestra, a Fantasia for orchestra and some Overtures - for the first time in a larger scale.
