The history of the Leipzig Opera in the 18th century was vibrant but short (1692-1720). Heinichen, Fasch, Pisendel, Stoelzel and Telemann were its composers. Sadly, the surviving evidence of this activity is meager at best: some of the librettos have survived, including 40 anonymous arias in an aria collection relating to an opera known as Germanicus. Our new recording tells you how all this came about, why Telemann is unquestionably the work's composer.
