Swiss bassoon maker Walter Bassetto, in cooperation with bassoonist Lyndon Watts, has, for the first time ever, reconstructed a bassoon based on the models built by the 19th century’s "Stradivari of the Bassoon", Jean Nicolas Savary (jeune). The reconstruction of a Savary 1823 bassoon is heard on this CD. This instrument is especially convincing by virtue of its effortless response and its nasally pithy yet lyrical sound. Mr. Watts is professor of (modern) bassoon at the Academy of the Arts in Berne.
