During the first half of the 17th c., Polish music culture experienced a period of the great flourishing; unfortunately, much of what was written has to be classified as a permanent loss today because of the war waged against Sweden between 1655-60. What is extant, however, enriches our picture of the music culture of the old (and new!) Central Europe. With selected compositions by once-prominent composers Marcin Mielczewski, Mikolaj Zielenski, and Adam Jarzêbski in honor of the Virgin Mary, the WESER-RENAISSANCE ensemble brings back to life the magnificent sound of this great epoch.
