This new release of seventeenth century dances features works from Erasmus Widmann and Michael Praetorius. Erasmus Widmann (1572-1634) was a German composer who held positions in Eisenerz, Graz, Schwabisch Hall, and was Kapellmeister to Count Wolfgang von Hohenlohe-Weikersheim from 1602 until 1610. HisMusikalischer Tugendspiegel was composed in 1613. Also a German composer, Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) is known for his musical forms based around Protestant hymns. His Terpsichore was composed in 1612, and is named for the Greek muse of the same name, who was the goddess of dance and chorus.
