When I started Cellar Live in 2000, recording a musician the stature of Eric Alexander was a dream-Eric enjoyed long stints with some pretty incredible record labels over the years and I wasn't ready to play in the BIG leagues at that point. But many incredible things have happened at the label since that time. And now that the opportunity to record him has come up, I am able to jump at the chance. - Timing Is Everything is an appropriate title for both this recording, but, as Eric explains, "for life in general." "When you're playing jazz music," he continues, "you can play all the right notes, but if you don't time them correctly, it's nothing... and when you do time them correctly, it's everything." Jim Rotondi - Finesse - Trumpeter Jim Rotondi has been a major figure in the world of jazz for over 30 years, both in New York and on the international scene. His sound, soul, and sense of swing have been in demand as leader and sideman all over the world. For his new album for Cellar Music, Rotondi has joined forces with arranger Jakob Helling and the Notes & Tones Orchestra to record some incredible versions of his own compositions with big band and strings.

Following his beloved and best-selling 2018 album of music from popular films, Renaud Capucon returns to the magical world of cinema in Les Choses de la Vie - Cinema II. The violinist has dedicated this sequel to 19 titles written by French film composers or for iconic French films. This includes, among others, Michel Legrand's "The Windmills of Your Mind" featured on the 1968 soundtrack to The Thomas Crown Affair; Joseph Kosma's "Les Feuilles mortes", or "Autumn Leaves", heard in the 1946 film Les Portes de la nuit (Gates of the Night); and themes from the scores to The Shape of Water (2017) by Alexandre Desplat, Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Maurice Jarre, Memories of Me (1988) by Georges Delerue, and Les Choses de la vie (1970) by Philippe Sarde, which inspired the project's name. "There's a great tradition of film music among French composers," explains Renaud Capucon. "Each has their own personality, their own style. The music of Alexandre Desplat or Jean-Claude Petit has nothing in common with that of Gabriel Yared or Francois de Roubaix, but all these titles have a typically French touch and charm." For this new cinematic musical experience, the French violinist has joined with the musicians of Les Siecles orchestra and conductor Duncan Ward.

Delving into black magic and folk culture, Weber created with Der Freischutz a new aesthetic that was to nourish the imaginative world of a whole generation of composers. Rene Jacobs has gone back to the sources of the initial project and here offers us a completely new reading of the very first German Romantic opera. The prologue initially conceived by the librettist is restored to it's original place, giving due symbolic and structural weight to the character of the Hermit. This is a fascinating rediscovery.

The great popularity of the piano trio enabled Haydn to explore countless formal and harmonic experiments; while the keyboard remains the central element in the musical structure, the strings give the discourse a subtle colouration, and the violin is often assigned independent musical ideas. This elegant three-way dialogue, conducted here by the Trio Wanderer, is as impressive for its originality as for its supreme stylistic virtuosity. Haydn was a past master at this little game, and still remains so centuries later!

These are beautifully played performances. There is enough clarity around each instrument to make every line audible, the sparer textures of the Classical trio style help greatly in this respect. It’s a treat to hear Haydn trios played with such care for their sound and texture.

Double vinyl LP pressing. All for You is Diana Krall's tribute to the Nat King Cole Trio of the 1940s, when Cole performed as both a singer and pianist. Krall, also a singer/pianist like her heroes Lena Horne and Carmen McRae, plays both roles on most of the songs here. She's able to link her singing to her piano, playing in sympathetic ways and projecting tremendous feeling through both. Verve's Acoustic Sounds Series utilizes the skills of top mastering engineers and the unsurpassed production craft of Quality Record Pressings.

After emerging from Terence Blanchard's band, pianist Aaron Parks made his own Blue Note debut in 2008 with Invisible Cinema, a striking album that has only grown in it's influence of the modern jazz landscape since it's release. Featuring a quartet with guitarist Mike Moreno, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland, the music drew inspiration from Wayne Shorter, Radiohead, and more. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition was mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
