Dee Dee takes on the mantle of disco diva on this 1979 album. "Bad For Me", the title cut, is one of the best club cuts of all time. The material is strong and the jazz influences give the album greater heft than the run of the mill material released by contemporary's at the time. This upbeat disco album encapsulates all that was right about the Disco Era. Sure she has graduated on to the upper echelons of jazz, but this is where she got her start. It's fun. She adds depth and fire to the dance cuts "Don't Say It" and the sassy "For The Girls", the album closes with the excellent Ashford & Simpson penned "Is This What Feeling Gets" from The Wiz. "Bad For Me" was produced by George Duke.

Double vinyl LP pressing. On the heels of massive successes with his main projects Lettuce and Break Science, celebrated collaborations with jazz guitar luminary John Scofield, and high profile hip-hop production placements with the likes of 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, and Redman, Grammy-nominated drummer/producer Adam Deitch finally unveils Egyptian Secrets, the long-awaited debut LP from his Adam Deitch Quartet. A fluid expression of the funkier side of soul-jazz, Deitch and his curated collective hint at the avant-garde, but stay grounded in warm traditions. AD4 adventures through the vibrant forest of late 60's Verve and Blue Note cool, respectfully mining the essential elements of what makes a great hip-hop break, and then Deitch reimagines them in his own contemporary context.

In our first full collaboration with jazz royalty Patricia Barber, Impex Records is thrilled to announce our premier multichannel audio SACD/Hybrid disc of her elegant new album Higher. Recorded and mixed by long-time collaborator Jim Anderson, this spectacular set contains a unique eight jazz-interpreted art-song cycle that explore the mysteries that bind and illuminate us. Barber says of her six year creation of Higher, "I feel very much that this album is a manifestation of my hard-won harmonic evolution." She continues her blending of classical and modern idioms, both musical and lyrical, into a hybrid that plays to the best of both: classically-oriented with room to improvise and expand. The Impex Records exclusive SACD version contains four additional tracks: jazz standards "Early Autumn", "Secret Love" and "In Your Own Sweet Way", along with an expanded version of "The Opera Song" featuring lyric soprano Katherine Werbiansky. Both 5.1 and 2.0 SACD layers were transferred directly to DSD from original DXD (352.8kHz / 32 bit) files for astonishing reproduction of every living note and subtle expression in this truly seminal work by one of America's finest jazz auteurs. Galper's dazzling runs are often complemented by his punchy pointillism... stunning... - DownBeat. During a rich musical period in the late '70s with many performances around New York City and two European tours together, pianist Hal Galper and guitarist John Scofield recorded a pair of legendary albums that demonstrated the well grounded paths they were on, their concepts coalescing in a hub of scorched earth intensity. Scofield's "Rough House," was followed by Galper's "Ivory Forest" recorded in October 1979, both originally on the German Enja label and with Adam Nussbaum on drums. Now 40+ years later, and the legacy set with countless thousands of musicians inspired to follow in their steps, the sounds remain modern and vital.

Jun 17, 2022
Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. Overcome is a new Dave Douglas recording, alongside vocalists Fay Victor and Camila Meza, trombonist Ryan Keberle, bassist Jorge Roeder, and drummer Rudy Royston, who banded together over a period of months to create a new album of songs. A statement of purpose, an acknowledgement of forebears, and an exhortation to activism, Overcome involves the six musicians in an emotional and powerful statement of human engagement towards justice: Racial justice. Climate justice. Voting justice. Gender justice. The project began with a reimagining of the Civil Rights anthem, "We Shall Overcome," featuring Victor and Meza each singing a verse before joining for arousing final verse. As Douglas began working on the originals for the album, this unique communal vocal interplay became a key element of three more pieces: "Overcome" and "When We Are Together Again" are both inspired by the challenges of pandemic isolation; "Good Trouble" celebrates activist John Lewis. Victor takes the spotlight on "Peace" as she voices poignant poetry from Langston Hughes. And the free-spirited Royston original "Perspective" brings a nice balance to the proceedings. This is spirited communal music on a mission. Released direct-to-fan previously, the LP is available worldwide for the very first time.
