Brahms's four symphonies lie at the very core of the Berliner Phiharmoniker's repertoire and reputation. The Nutcracker, first seen in 1892, recounts the magical Christmas Eve of young Clara. In describing himself in an interview as "a complete romantic", Andre Previn suggested just why his recordings of Tchaikovsky's three great ballet scores, made in the 1970s with the London Symphony Orchestra, have become classics of the catalogue. In their sweep, colour and surging emotion, they exemplify the spirit of late Romanticism, the musical aesthetic at the heart of Previn's repertoire. Over his 11 years as Principal Conductor of the LSO (1968-1979) he and his musicians became something of a media phenomenon, notably with their own series on BBC television, which helped to draw full houses for their concerts in London and on tour.

Rudolf Kempe's recordings of Richard Strauss have long been prized for their unparalleled clarity and subtlety in music that has come to define the late-Romantic temperament and it's expression of highly strung emotions, whether in a state of Nietzschean exaltation, on the summits of 'Also sprach Zarathustra' or in the post-war despair of 'Metamorphosen'. The German-born conductor Otto Klemperer, a towering figure in the musical history of the 20th century, died at the age of 88 on July 8th 1973, so 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of his death. His complete recordings on Warner Classics catalogue are being made available for the first time in 2 huge separate boxes; the first volume with the Symphonic Works, Concertos & Lieder (95CD) will be released in June 2023. All recordings are remastered in HD 192/24 from original sources. Beethoven's Symphonies by Klemperer and the Philharmonia Orchestra are one of the most well-known and acclaimed versions of these works, and the "Choral" Symphony with no doubt one of it's highlights.

Maynard Ferguson - With His Own Bands: Early Years 1954-57 / Canadian jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson was something of a prodigy as a youngster, playing solos with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Orchestra broadcasts when he was 13 years old, and was always destined for a career in music, training at the Conservatoire in Montreal until 1948. He moved to the USA and played with the bands of Boyd Raeburn, Jimmy Dorsey and Charlie Barnet before joining Stan Kenton for an extended stint in the early '50s. The recordings featured here represent his first forays into recording leading his own bands. This 43-track 2-CD collection comprises all the titles (excluding one which could not be included for reasons of space) from his albums on the Emarcy label "The Maynard Ferguson Octet", "Dimensions", "Around the Horn with Maynard Ferguson" and "Boy with Lots of Brass", with line-ups ranging from an octet to a 13-piece big band. This recording captures the UK premiere performance of James MacMillan's Christmas Oratorio at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, performed and recorded in the presence of the composer. The world premiere of the work was given by the Dutch Radio Philharmonic and Choir in Amsterdam in January 2021. The LPO was due to give the world premiere of the work however, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the performance came on December 4 2021, a year later than planned. Composed in 2019, this work reflects MacMillan's Scottish roots and Catholic faith, embracing a Scots Gaelic lullaby, English poetry, Latin texts and Bible passages recounting the Nativity. The work, commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, is split into two parts with seven movements each. Both parts start and finish with short orchestral movements, creating a palindromic structure. Soprano Lucy Crowe and baritone Roderick Williams shine in this performance, both performing two arias each and singing with the London Philharmonic Choir in the Tableaux.

This is the first commercially available recording of Tippett's first opera in over 50 years, recorded in a landmark performance conducted by Tippett enthusiast Edward Gardner. Brett Dean was the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Composer-in-Residence from 2020-2023; this release brings together seven works recorded live in concert during his tenure. Together with five leading conductors and five outstanding soloists, the LPO skilfully navigates the diverse facets of Dean's orchestral writing, from the vivid soundscapes and virtuosity of the Viola and Cello Concertos, to the drama of In spe contra spem - quoting letters and speeches by Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots - and the theatrical accordion work The Players, which revisits scenes from Dean's award-winning 2017 opera Hamlet.

When "Mario Lanza: Greatest Operatic Recordings" (SEPIA 1274) was released in February 2015, Lanza fans were delighted, for this compilation disc was said "to do justice to his much misrepresented recording legacy". Now, in response to requests from around the world, we gather some more Lanza operatic recordings; some never before released commercially ("Qual occhio al mondo"), some private ("Aria sconosciuta" and "Questa bocca tua"), some live ("Lasciatemi morire" and "Gia il sole dal Gange") and some radio broadcasts ("Vesti la giubba") etc. To form a Volume 2 compilation, lovingly presented in re-mastered sound including Lanza rehearsing and warming up his voice.

A prestigious name since it came into being in 1945, the Philharmonia was established by legendary producer Walter Legge as a high-calibre house orchestra for EMI. It's history of collaboration with the world's greatest musicians includes numerous landmark recordings now in the Warner Classics catalogue. The performances here cover the period between 1946 and 1964. Conducted by such figures as Karajan, Furtwangler, Toscanini, Klemperer, Giulini and Cantelli, they have been extensively remastered from the original tapes, gaining a new immediacy. As a further bonus, this collection includes a recording from 2018 and a CD of music and interviews that provides fascinating insights into the Philharmonia's relationship with four major conductors.
