Let No Man Write My Epitaph was a 1960 Hollywood movie featuring Fitzgerald. Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing housed in tip-on jacket. Small jazz groups brought out the best in Billie Holiday - especially groups as good as the one heard on this classic 1957 recording. Ben Webster, Harry "Sweets" Edison and the other members of this stellar ensemble were not just gifted soloists but sensitive accompanists as well. Lady Day was rarely more ably supported than she was on this program of sturdy standards, including three gems by the Gershwin brothers - and she rarely sounded more luminous.

Recorded in 1966 for the Verve Folkways label, Lightnin' Strikes may not have the notoriety as some of Hopkins' other albums, but this set backed by Jimmy Bond (bass), Earl Palmer (drums) and Don Crawford (harmonica) is classic Lightnin'. From the opener, "Mojo Hand," to the ballad "Woke Up This Morning," Lightnin' Strikes showcases classic blues from one of the best there was. The first of Sonny's albums for Impulse!, this 1965 collection caught Rollins at the peak of his creative powers, and is arguably the tenor hero's best for the label-an intense, freewheeling set, featuring classic takes on "On Green Dolphin Street" and "Three Little Words" in the company of Ray Bryant (piano), Walter Booker (bass) and Mickey Roker (drums).

In 1964, the National Film Board of Canada asked John Coltrane to record the soundtrack for a French-language film titled Le Chat Dans Le Sac (The Cat in the Bag). In June of that year, Coltrane's classic quartet entered Rudy Van Gelder's studio and recorded five previously-recorded Coltrane originals. For many years, viewers of the film who recognized the music thought that they were listening to the original recordings, though in fact they were new and had never been heard.

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release from the musician, bandleader and TV personality. Batiste is best known as bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Recorded in his hometown of New Orleans, the album is produced by T-Bone Burnett and is described as "an homage to his musical heroes and an intimate portrait of the artist." As Batiste explains, "The idea was to strip everything down, go back to basics. "When you strip something down to rawest form, the essence of it shines through." The Kenner-born bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert opted to include on the album's track list the New Orleans standard "Saint James Infirmary," as well as "Smile," "The Very Thought of You" and Louis Armstrong's timeless "What a Wonderful World."
