Originally released in 1990, Carol Kidd’s bestselling album ‘The Night We Called It A Day’ has been re-issued as part of Linn’s ECHO series. Upon release the album was voted ‘Best Jazz Recording’ at the UK Musical Retailer's Awards in the same year that Ms. Kidd was named ‘Best Vocalist’ at the Cannes Int’l Jazz Awards. Carol Kidd is acknowledged in jazz circles as ‘Britain’s finest ballads singer’ (Jazz Review). Renowned for her impeccable phrasing and delivery, she has secured the British Jazz Awards ‘Best Vocalist’ title on four separate occasions and has received the MBE for Services to Jazz.

This is Tina's first release for Linn, but she already has a fantastic reputation having won numerous awards over the years. In particular she has been regularly awarded the "Critics Choice" award at the British Jazz Awards and was named "Top Vocalist of 1998".

The Devil’s Trill was named "Chamber Disc of the Month" by BBC Music Magazine and "Classical CD of the Week" by the Sunday Times when it was released in 2008. The album has been re-issued as part of the ECHO series by Linn which gives listeners a second chance to enjoy the best of the label’s catalogue.

This recording presents programmatic sonatas by Italian composer Giuseppe Tartini. The most famous of these is quite possibly the Devil’s Trill Sonata, after which the album is named.

A sonata by Frencesco Maria Veracini, a fellow violinist and composer, is also included. Veracini’s virtuosic playing was a major influence on a young Tartini.

The Palladian Ensemble are winners of the prestigious Diapason d’Or Award on five different occasions.

This is clever programming, for while Tartini's music is undoubtedly difficult, the jittery virtuosity of the Veracini throws into relief its melodic grace and refinement.

Rodolfo Richter is a perfect violinist for this music, a player whose rock-solid technique, shining liquid tone and easy bowing allow him a rhythmic and lyrical freedom that really does seem to make his instrument sing.

As one might expect from the Palladians, the continuo-playing is of a high order, imaginative but never clamoring for attention. An excellent introduction to Tartini's world, presented with warmth and affection.

There are, of course, other excellent interpretations of these pieces - such as Andrew Manze's Tartini (on Harmonia Mundi), The Locatelli Trio's Tartini (on Hyperion) and John Holloway's Veracini (on ECM). But the Palladians stand up pretty well to any of these comparisons. If you have no recordings of ‘Il trillo del Diavolo' and ‘Didone abbandonata' these are amongst the most attractive candidates for purchase. They can also be warmly recommended to those who want to hear more than one intelligent and sensitive performance of this fascinating music. The recorded sound is as good as one now expects from Linn.

Cantiones sacrae is the long-awaited follow up to Magnificat’s critically acclaimed 25th anniversary recording, Scattered Ashes. The Cantiones sacrae is an unusual work that stands quite apart from Schütz’s other published sacred music in both scale and style. The collection comprises forty Latin motets for four voices, plus a figured bass for continuo accompaniment (realized on this recording by lute, violone and organ), which was added later by the composer. The perfectly crafted works are composed in a learned, contrapuntal style rich in dissonance and range of expression. Schütz cleverly mirrors the intensely intimate nature of the texts using a musical language that looks to inward expression rather than to external effect. Schütz takes every opportunity to exploit vocal timbre and technique in the service of word-painting, with the virtuosic vocal lines ranging from a conservative imitative style to the most avant-garde, chromatic style of the Italian madrigal. Magnificat’s performance of the Opus 4 motets reveals Schütz to be a composer with an imagination of extraordinary variety.

Composer Maxwell Davies was closely associated with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra from the 1980s until his passing in 2016. With this new release, the ensemble celebrates the life of their beloved Composer Laureate. Maxwell Davies produced an incredible amount of music during his career. In 2014, a BBC Prom was devoted completely to his works. The cornerstone of this album is An Orkney Wedding, which portrays the beauty of a sunrise after a boozy celebration. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is well-known and respected all over the world. They are conducted here by Ben Gernon, who conducted the ensemble in the 2014 Davies devoted BBC Proms. “This music was fun, the playing of the musicians superb, and it left the audience in an excited and bedazzled celebratory mood.” (BachTrack)

Double 180 gm vinyl LP pressing features new, original artwork, a beautifully designed eight-page booklet and is presented in a gatefold sleeve. 2009 release, the eighth album from the producer, remixer and Ambient pioneer. His signature sound - sleek and lush, but leaving a cool slipstream in it's wake - is immediately recognizable. Most of tracks on the album feature vocals, even if they are only textures in the mix - and their placement within the track is planned with a remixer's ear for shifts of perspective. 'This is more of a party record than the previous ones,' says William Orbit. 'It's not a serious, po-faced record, it's not ambient - although it has it's ambient moments.' Although My Oracle Lives Uptown is probably William Orbit's most immediate album, it's so subtly layered that it only reveals itself fully after a number of plays. And like his other solo albums, it will surely be resistant to the ageing process. His vision is idiosyncratic and original enough to not to have to try to play catch-up with anyone else, which gives his music a curiously timeless feel.

Una poesia muta: Art in early Cinquecento Venice is the result of a collaboration between SWR radio, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and The Marian Consort. Specially curated by the Stuttgart museum, Germany's first ever exhibition devoted to Vittore Carpaccio and his contemporaries has inspired The Marian Consort to devise an album to accompany this artistic journey. Being one of the most prominent painters of the Early Renaissance in Venice, Carpaccio is likely to have been acquainted with the music and the composers recorded here, since all have strong links to the city at that time. If some of them are well-known today - Josquin, Jean Mouton, Adrian Willaert - others deserve wider recognition. The Marian Consort and it's director Rory McCleery have assembled a typically fascinating programme, matched with superb singing.
