The first album to hit the shelves after Giant Steps, Coltrane Jazz was recorded in November and December 1959, although one of the eight tracks ("Villiage Blues") was recorded in late 1960. On everything save the aforementioned "Village Blues," Coltrane used the Miles Davis rhythm section of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb.

John Coltrane's 1961 masterpiece "My Favorite Things" famously reimagines the cheerful Broadway standard into a hypnotic, modal journey that served as a bridge between traditional jazz and his later avant-garde explorations. It stands as a landmark recording for being the first to showcase Coltrane on the soprano saxophone and for introducing the initial lineup of his legendary "Classic Quartet".

Vinyl LP pressing. "Coltrane" is the John Coltrane's debut album as a leader, meaning this is the first time he was the primary artist, leading the session occurred just after his period with Miles Davis. Earlier in 1957, Coltrane had been fired by Davis (in April) over drug-related problems, then spent time in Philadelphia dealing with those issues. Musically, though his mature, iconic style was still developing, you can see him stretching: a real work with complex standards and original compositions, experimenting with phrasing and the form. Released in October 1957 (recorded May 31, 1957 at Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey) the album didn't make a major splash on release, Coltrane was still mostly known as Miles Davis's sideman and briefly as a member of Thelonious Monk's quartet. Prestige Records wasn't promoting him heavily; they were more focused on Miles, Rollins, and others. But what critics called "first glimpse" of Coltrane will be in future an important record valued as the document of his emerging sound, especially his work with harmony, phrasing, and that "sheets of sound" style that he'd refine later. Easily one of the most important records ever made, John Coltrane's a Love Supreme was his pinnacle studio outing that at once compiled all of his innovations from his past, spoke of his current deep spirituality, and also gave a glimpse into the next two and a half years (sadly, those would be his last). Recorded at the end of 1964, Trane's classic quartet of Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, and Jimmy Garrison stepped into the studio and created one of the most thought-provoking, concise, and technically pleasing albums of their bountiful relationship (not to mention his best-selling to date). from the flowing (and classic) bass line at the intro to the last breathy notes, Trane is at the peak of his logical yet emotionally varied soloing while the rest of the group is remarkably in tune with Coltrane's spiritual vibe. Composed of four parts, each has a thematic progression leading to an understanding of spirituality through meditation.

Alice Coltrane's devotion to spirituality was the central purpose of the final four decades of her life, an often-overlooked awakening that largely took shape during her four-year marriage to John Coltrane and after his 1967 death. By 1983, Alice had established the 48-acre Sai Anantam Ashram outside of Los Angeles. She quietly began recording music from the ashram, releasing it within her spiritual community in the form of private press cassette tapes. The original multi-track recording was commissioned by Impulse but wasn't released at the time. Features an all-star group including Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Garrison, Cecil McBee, Ed Blackwell and others. This was a triple bill placing her in the company of Laura Nyro and The Rascals. Concert produced by Sid Bernstein, who promoted the first Beatles concert in the US. CD Softpak.

On March 6, 1963, John Coltrane and his Classic Quartet - McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones - recorded an entire studio album at the legendary Van Gelder Studios. This music, which features unheard originals, was finally released 55 years later in June of 2018. To commemorate this event, we are releasing a very unique and collectable 12' Die Cut single on orange vinyl which features two very distinctive triangular die cuts directly into the vinyl.

Alice Coltrane's controversial 're-imagining' of her husband's late works was criticized by both fans and critics, as she took his original performances and superimposed them over lush orchestral backgrounds and re-dubbed rhythm section parts, as well as recording new solos on piano, organ, harp and timpani.

John Coltrane -"Evenings At The Village Gate: John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy" / In August of 1961, the John Coltrane Quintet played an engagement at the legendary Village Gate in Greenwich Village, New York. Eighty minutes of never-before-heard music from this group were recently discovered at the New York Public Library. In addition to some well-known Coltrane material ("Impressions"), there is a breathtaking feature for Dolphy's bass clarinet on "When Lights Are Low" and the only known non-studio recording of Coltrane's composition "Africa", from the Africa/Brass album.

2021 archive release. Alice Coltrane is the undeniable godmother of spiritual jazz and an acknowledged influence on everyone from Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington to Solange and Radiohead. Kirtan: Turiya Sings features Alice Coltrane at peak spirituality and is presented in this arrangement for the first time. Turyia Sings was originally released in 1982 on cassette as a collection of devotional songs including vocals, organ, strings, and synthesizers available only at Alice's Sai Anantam Ashram.

Blue Train: The Complete Masters which includes a second disc of alternate and incomplete takes, four of which have never been released before, and none of which have been available previously on vinyl. On September 15, 1957, John Coltrane went into Rudy Van Gelder's living room studio in Hackensack, New Jersey and recorded his first great masterpiece: Blue Train. It would be the legendary saxophonist's sole album as a leader for Blue Note, a locomotive five-track album fueled by the bluesy title track that featured a dynamic six-piece band with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums.

Vinyl LP pressing. Ballads is a jazz album by John Coltrane. It was recorded in December 1961 and 1962. Critic Gene Lees stated that the quartet had never played the tunes before. "They arrived with music-store sheet music of the songs" and just before the recordings, they "would discuss each tune, write out copies of the changes they'd use, semi-rehearse for a half hour and then do it". Each piece was recorded in one take, except for "All or Nothing at All".
