Alma Mahler composed primarily lieder; her output was limited but has gained renewed attention. Known as much for her relationships as for her music. Songs are characterized by late-Romantic harmonic language and emotional intensity.

Signature works: Fünf Lieder (1910-1915), Vier Lieder, Laue Sommernacht, Bei dir ist es traut, Licht in der Nacht.
