Schumann: Liederkreis, Op. 24; Dichterliebe, Op. 48 / Fischer-Dieskau, Holl Composer: Robert Schumann Performer: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hartmut Hll Liederkreis, Op. 24 is a song cycle for voice and piano composed by Robert Schumann on nine poems by Heinrich Heine. The cycle was composed and published in 1840. This song cycle was one of the earlier products of Schumann's Liederjahr (Year of Song), referring to his nearly exclusive devotion to song composition from 1840-1841, immediately after his marriage to Clara Wieck. During a career that spanned nearly five decades, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau established himself as one of the most accomplished performing artists of the twentieth century. He is widely considered to have been the finest modern interpreter of German lieder, and his extensive operatic career was noted for fine musicianship and powerful characterization. He also made important contributions as an author, conductor, and teacher. Among the post-Gerald Moore, post-Geoffrey Parsons accompanists, Hartmut Hll has attracted attention as a collaborator with his own ideas about singer/accompanist partnerships. With his wife, mezzo soprano Mitsuko Shirai, and with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau during the final years of the baritone's long career
