UK collection. Film is the twentieth century's own art form and music played a vital part in its development. Bernard Herrmann's music, again and again, underscored the emotional impact of key moments in a series of classics. The mid-century was the era of the film fantasy in Hollywood. The genre called for a composer with the musical literacy to match the films' wildly imaginative concepts. The impish Bernard Herrmann stepped forward to create the bold scores featured in this anthology, which would push the boundaries of what film music might be. For The Day the Earth Stood Still, Herrmann essayed a brilliantly unconventional score which anticipated the explorations into the world of electronic sound by Stockhausen and Varese, and even the Beatles; a panorama of sound; a melange of harps and vibraphones, theramins, electronic violins, bass guitars and backwards tapes, offsetting a huge brass section, while for the deeply exotic Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Herrmann characterized the various creatures with unusual instrument combinations; notably the xylophones in the skeleton duel. On Journey to the Centre of the Earth, the composer sought to evoke the mood and feeling of inner earth by using only instruments played in low registers including, with great bravura, five organs, one large cathedral and four electronic. The music romantic fantasies The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Beneath the 12 Mile Reef and Jennie's Song from Portrait of Jennie are no less impressive; Muir was Herrmann's personal favorite score, one of the loveliest in all cinema, while Beneath the 12 Mile Reef would capture the swell of the ocean with an expansive nine harps.

CD reissue. Gary Peacock's recordings of the 1980s are production projects on which great players convened to play the bassist's tunes. And the bass is fully a lead voice here, with a Peacock solo opening the proceedings. As Paul Bley once said, "Gary is one of those rare musicians you could always count on to play better than you." Nonetheless, there are mighty contributions from saxophone, trumpet and drums, with Jan Garbarek in particularly strong form. Recorded 1987.

Marc-Antoine Charpentier is the only composer of the age of Louis XIV to have distinguished himself so remarkably in the genre of the 'sacred history': he wrote more than thirty such works, all composed after his residence in Italy. S�bastien Dauc� and the Ensemble Correspondances have carefully extracted from this outstanding corpus a number of gems that reflect both his experience in Rome (probably studying with Carissimi, the master of the oratorio) and the humanist concerns of an entire period. Like a miniature opera, each piece relates an exemplary destiny, including several strong-willed women (Judith, Cecilia, Mary Magdalene) and a deep friendship put to the test (Mors Sa�lis and Jonathae).

EU-only collection. Maureen O'Hara was perhaps best known for her acting career where she often stared in westerns and action films alongside acting greats such as John Wayne. During a two year hiatus from acting Maureen O'Hara concentrated on her singing voice and recorded just two LPs, Sings Her Favorite Irish Songs and Love Letters both of which are featured here. As the original album titles indicate the first 16 tracks are devoted to folk songs of her native Ireland with versions of "A Kerry Cow" and "Danny Boy" whilst tracks 17 to 28 is devoted to her personal choices from the Great American Songbook. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is the most famous and successful zulu vocal group of all time. Founded and led by Joseph Shabala in 1974, they quickly became hugley popular in their native South Africa, be it was their collaboration with Paul Simon on his class Graceland about in the mid-eighties that brought them to a worldwide audience. Ladysmith Black Mambazo has played Montreux on three occasions and this CD is a combination from all three performances. It features classic tracks such as "Hello My Baby," "Kings of Kings" and the song co-written with Paul Simon, "Homeless", which has become their signature tune.

2017 release. Trombone Shorty's Blue Note-debut, Parking Lot Symphony, captures the spirit and the essence of The Big Easy, while redefining it's sound. Blazing through '70s funk, rock, hip-hop and R&B, Parking Lot Symphony was produced by Chris Seefried (Andra Day, Fitz and The Tantrums) and features songs co-written by Aloe Blacc, and Alex Ebert (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros).

Three years after suffering a devastating hand injury, Milos returns with a new album, Sound of Silence. The album features meditative solo guitar works alongside a selection of pop and jazz hits curated by Milos himself. Songs by artists ranging from Simon & Garfunkel and Leonard Cohen to Nora Jones have been reimagined in stunning new settings for guitar and other instruments. Guest artists include saxophonist Jess Gillam as well as Hang player Manu Delago (regular collaborator of Björk).

Ferdinand is based on Munro Leaf's children's book The Story of Ferdinand and directed by Carlos Saldanha, and stars the voices of John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Anthony Anderson, Bobby Cannavale, Peyton Manning, Gina Rodriguez, Miguel �ngel Silvestre, and David Tennant. Nick Jonas wrote and recorded a song called "Home" for the movie.

2018 release. The Lullaby Project, a program of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute, pairs expectant and new mothers in hospitals, homeless shelters, schools, and correctional facilities; with professional artists to write personal lullabies for their babies. Born of this program Hopes & Dreams: The Lullaby Project features a selection of these original lullabies as recorded by a range of artists.
