Gregory Porter's debut studio album, Water - originally released in 2010 under the Motema Music label - is now reissued on Blue Note Records. The tracks include love stories such as "Illusion and Pretty," and protests for African-American civil rights like "1960 What?" which recounts the 1967 Detroit riots. Water was hailed by fans and critics alike, elevating Porter to the status of the next great jazz star and marking the beginning of his successful career.

McCoy Tyner looked to Africa on his far-reaching 1970 album Extensions, the only recorded collaboration between Tyner and Alice Coltrane who plays harp on 3 of the album's 4 tracks-including the expansive opener "Message from the Nile"-along with Wayne Shorter, Gary Bartz, Ron Carter & Elvin Jones. Vibraphonist Milt Jackson was a frequent presence on Blue Note sessions in the bebop era. As part of the fabled 1500 Series begun in 1956, the label issued the 12-inch compilation Milt Jackson and The Thelonious Monk Quintet which expanded Jackson's 10-inch LP Wizard of the Vibes with tracks from 1948 and 1951 dates led by Monk. The album cover was the first designed by Reid Miles. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

The fourth volume of The Amazing Bud Powell series, recorded in 1958, found the brilliant bebop piano master in particularly fine form on an ebullient set of his original tunes including "Buster Rides Again," "Monopoly," and "John's Abbey." Powell's inventive solo flights shine in a trio setting with Sam Jones on bass and "Philly" Joe Jones on drums.

Kansas City-born Hammond B3 organ dynamo Big John Patton made a stellar run of soul jazz albums for Blue Note through the 1960s but Let 'Em Roll stands among his finest with Patton adding vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson to a standard organ trio line-up with guitarist Grant Green and drummer Otis Finch. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Series was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Jackie McLean's music weaved in and out of the avant-garde throughout the 1960s with the brilliant 1963 inside-out dates One Step Beyond and Destination... Out! Eventually leading to full-throated free jazz of the 1967 dates New and Old Gospel (featuring Ornette Coleman on trumpet) and 'Bout Soul. Demon's Dance, which was recorded in December 1967, found the alto saxophonist maintaining a decidedly post-bop edge with a spirited quintet comprised of trumpeter Woody Shaw, pianist LaMont Johnson, bassist Scott Holt, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The six-song set presented a pair of tunes each by McLean, Shaw, and composer Cal Massey with highlights including McLean's churning title track, Shaw's tuneful bossa "Sweet Love of Mine," and Massey's brightly swinging "Message from Trane" in tribute to the great John Coltrane who had passed away early that year. But the album's most striking feature may be the unforgettable cover artwork by Mati Klarwein whose work also graced the cover of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew.

2022 release. Saxophonist Melissa Aldana joins Blue Note with her debut album, 12 Stars, which grapples with concepts of childrearing, familial forgiveness, acceptance, and self-love, and was inspired by her interest in tarot. The Brooklyn-based composer from Santiago, Chile, has garnered international recognition for her visionary work as a bandleader and meditative interpretation of language and vocabulary. Produced by Lage Lund who performs with Sullivan Fortner, Fender Rhodes, Kush Abadey & Pablo Menares.

Duke Pearson's 1967 album The Right Touch is perhaps the finest of his career and a showcase for the breadth of his talents as a pianist, composer, and arranger. Six memorable originals are performed by a dynamic 8-piece band including Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Stanley Turrentine (tenor sax) and James Spaulding (alto sax). Vinyl LP pressing. Other than Elvis, Carl, and Gene Vincent, not many rockabillies could claim a genuine national hit during the genre's mid-'50s heyday-but Sanford Clark could. His low-key vocal on The Fool, supplied by Clark's Phoenix, Arizona-based producer Lee Hazlewood, gave the deadpan lament precisely the feel that it required, Al Casey's blistering lead guitar adding it's snarling rockabilly edge. Once Dot Records picked up the master and it's Elvis-like flip Lonesome For A Letter for national consumption and it hit big in 1956, Sanford found himself a sudden star, touring with Perkins and Vincent and churning out more rocking product for Dot. The Fool put Lee on the map as a producer, well before he masterminded the rise of Duane Eddy. Bear Family's 'Sanford Clark Rocks' surveys the very best of Sanford's Dot output-Usta Be My Baby, A Cheat (both the original Dot release and the snare drum overdub version), Ooo Baby, Love Charms, Lou Be Doo, an unissued-at-the-time Cross-Eyed Alley Cat. The brilliant pianist and composer Geri Allen came out of Detroit's fertile jazz scene, eventually moving to New York where she became part of the emerging M-Base collective that was forging new creative ideas and approaches to jazz in the 1980s. Allen began recording for Blue Note in 1990 with The Nurturer followed by Maroons in 1992. For her 3rd Blue Note album Twenty One, recorded in 1994, Allen joined forces with two masters-bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams-for a dynamic trio date. Allen's stunning lyricism, as well as her boundless harmonic and rhythmic creativity, shines on this remarkable 12-song set that presents her own compelling originals like "Feed The Fire," "RTG," and "In The Morning" alongside choice standards ("If I Should Lose You," "Tea For Two, "Lullaby Of The Leaves," "Old Folks") and pieces by Thelonious Monk ("Introspection/Thelonious").
