Voodoo in the Shadows
Fiona Boyes is Australia s most successful and celebrated international Blues artist. Her previous Reference Recordings release, Professin The Blues, received the 2017 Acoustic Album of the Year award from Blues Blast Magazine. The Blues Foundation in Memphis honored her with six Blues Music Award nominations, including Acoustic Album of the Year. This new album, Voodoo in the Shadows, is a self-produced session by the multi-talented guitarist/singer-songwriter, exploring the allure of the back roads from Memphis, through Mississippi, to New Orleans and down to the Gulf. In 11 songs, including 9 originals, we hear stories of respect, partying, attitude, mystery, sensuality and love. Joining her are three Australian bandmates: multi-instrumentalist Tim Neal, percussionist Mark Gruden, and Johnny Sansone, one of New Orleans finest musicians. As is customary, Fiona plays a cornucopia of guitars: her 6-string Maton, three cigar-box instruments and her rare baritone National Reso-lectric. Players combine in several groupings, featuring their different instruments, and a collaborative magic emerges, taking listeners along on the journey.

Cross Border Blues
Harrison Kennedy's voice, banjo, spoons and guitar, Jean-Jacques Milteau's imaginative harmonica and Vincent Segal's lyrical cello converse and play as the members of this inspired trio pay homage to their roots without sacrificing to nostalgia, inventing no less than the future of the blue note in the process. Kennedy owes forbearers who traveled the Underground Railroad all the way to Ontario, fleeing the Southern plantations where they were enslaved. Harrison has kept from this aching heritage a deep respect for the Mississippi and Tennessee roots he nurtures to this day in a truly original and personal fashion. The proud holder of a 2016 Juno Award and recipient of the 2015 Blues Prize granted by Académie, Charles Cros got his start at the height of the soul era. After making a noted debut on the prestigious Motown imprint joined the stellar group Chairmen of the Board, traveling across the world and sharing the stage with the likes of Stevie Wonder, George Harrison, and Tom Jones, among others. Eclecticism remains to this day the dominant trait of an artist who has always combined tradition and innovation. Jean-Jacques Milteau needs no introduction. This French harmonica wizard is a respected specialist of the blue note whose fruitful work with Eric Bibb around the repertoire of old-time songster Lead Belly has recently been acclaimed. Milteau, the winner of two Victoires de la Musique has worked, in the studio and on stage, with the likes of B.B. King, Little Milton, Mighty Mo Rodgers and Sam McClain. As for Vincent Segal, winner of an impressive number of Victoires de la Musique and with twenty years on the road with Cyril Atef and the duo Bumcello under his belt, his cello has graced an impressive number of projects in a wide variety of musical styles.
BLUES GIANTS
The Chicago Blues Box [8-CD Set]
The brief and dazzling life of MCM Records was a labor of love that captured many treasured live performances from the last flowering of the classic Chicago Blues age. With this 8 CD box set you get a front seat to shows in the vibrant blues clubs of Chicago in the 70's. These energetic and raw live recordings capture both to-be-legendary performers and others, and were recorded by french blues afficionado Marcelle Morgantini on reel-to-reel. When Morgantini came into some money on her 50th birthday, her only wish was to go to Chicago and record the blues. To that end, she made live recordings of many blues greats including Magic Slim, Big Mojo Elem, Jimmy Dawkins, John Littlejohn, Eddie Clearwater, Eddie Taylor, Bobby King, Jimmy Johnson, Luther Johnson and many more, remastered for this special box set.
