Formed in 2008, Triology is a jazz trio featuring three of Canada's most sought after jazz musicians

Two great sources of inspiration for me: my roots - the neighborhood in which I was born, Soundview, South Bronx NY, and my current Home Sugar Hill, Harlem. Although it was not a place filled with privilege and opportunity, Soundview was and is rich in artistic excellence and indomitable spirit. Much of the music on this record was either composed and refined here in Sugar Hill. This record is a tribute to my family and community in the Bronx and to the black excellence that began in the Harlem Renaissance. I hope you enjoy! Sadly again, we are bearing witness to the racial injustice in the United States, wherein Black people's lives are constantly at risk, particularly by those sworn to protect it's citizens. As harrowing as this is, there seems to be a dialog in which black voices are finally being heard. The Cellar Music Group recognizes that Jazz is not only a music native to America, but that the progenitors of this music are the very lives that are being threatened daily. I'm pleased to present the first of four releases led by Black artists that I will be producing for Cellar Music. As a result, I have unconsciously used this as an excuse to not engage in conversations about racism and discrimination with my Black friends and heroes of this music that I love. As spontaneous & effortless as it felt to record this music at Van Gelder's studio, it involved great effort and was a long time in the making. For Cory Weeds, it was years of hard work building his Cellar Music label and forging relationships with some of the jazz world's best players. And for Mike Allen, it involved years of developing a personal trio concept with the help of many collaborators.

The Real Blue is New York based jazz saxophonist Pureum Jin's first studio recording, joined by an all-star lineup, of Willie Jones III on drums, Jeremy Manasia on piano and rising stars Luke Sellick on bass, and Sabeth P�rez on vocals. The album exhibits the fierce, impassioned force that Pureum Jin's saxophone displays as a new voice on the New York jazz scene.

For 20 years Joan has been a major contributor to many things jazz in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Having a special affinity for drummer Dave Robbins, she offered Dave an opportunity to do a recording. The 11 tunes on the aptly titled Joan of Art - all but two composed by Dave - exemplify what Joan and any fan of intensely swinging and vigorously expressive jazz loves. Hard swinging and straight ahead!

The results speak for themselves: swinging bop lines executed by all, crackling rhythm section accompaniment and interaction, and an ensemble sound that underscores the values of swing, groove and participatory interaction over a carefully selected set of compositions-thanks to the support of Giulio Recchioni and the Italian Cultural Centre-that celebrate through reinvention and interpretation some great Italian music ("O Sole Mio," "Toma A Surriento"), as well as compositions taken from the rich history of contribution that Italian-Americans have brought to jazz and the American popular song (Marmarosa, Corea, Martino, Mancini). Although to some, perhaps, the ideas presented here may appear on the surface to be disparate and tangentially connected: a jazz version of "O Sole Mio," a fifth instrumentalist added to a longstanding quartet or even the Hammond B3 organ in jazz (a relatively late addition to the music's instrumentarium with an unusual historical pedigree of roller rinks and makeshift churches), jazz has long been about thwarting normative conventions and looking for points of intersection that connect and unite players and sounds that span nationalities, race, language, gender and musical history

When I was running the Cellar, I was approached by pianist Antonio Ciacca about presenting Italian Jazz Days at the club to showcase the musicians and songs from the great American-Italian songbook. I couldn't make it happen then.. In October 2015 Antonio brought a group to Vancouver: Antonio (the only 100% Italian in the group); bassist Paul Gill; drummer Peter Van Nostrand; and trumpeter/vocalist Benny Benack III. The lone non-Italian in the group was yours truly. I call myself an honorary Italian. We performed one night at the Italian Cultural Centre and then went in the studio to make Volare, The Italian American Songbook. We had an absolute ball making music together. The only new name to me in the group was Benny Benack III. He is among the young musicians living in New York who display an abundance of maturity in their playing. Benack III does not sound like a 25 year old. He has so much respect for the tradition, which is wonderful and unusual to see these days. Drummer Pete van Nostrand is a mainstay on the New York jazz scene and most recently can be heard playing with Cécile McLorin Savant. His drumming always subtly pushes you and has a very nice feel to it. He isn't a stranger to Cellar Live, having recorded on Steve Einerson's Arrival. Bassist Paul Gill, who also played on that recording, is the bassist of choice for numerous New York musicians. It's no secret why. He has a huge bass sound with that bounce that I love in a bass player. When it's his time to solo Paul displays the technique of a horn player, especially when he's using the bow. The leader of this group, Antonio Ciacca, has been living in America for nine years. He is a confident bandleader who knows exactly how he wants the music to sound and isn't afraid to tell you if he's not getting what he wants. That's the way it should be. Although he is a fantastic soloist, it's Antonio's subtle arranging and thoughtful accompaniment that really stand out for me on this recording..

Her 2016 debut, Out Of The Blue, grabbed ears across the country, showcasing her vocal clarity, her improvisational chops, her skillful lyric-writing, and an interpretative maturity unexpected for a woman about to turn 24. And her sophomore effort builds on that debut while racing ahead of it in every way.

2020 release. Trumpeter and vocalist Johnny Summers has been a mainstay on the Canadian jazz scene for years, and steps out on Cellar Music Group with his debut for the label. This swinging and soulful Baker's Dozen features 13 of Johnny's arrangements, representing some of the songs best known from Chet in his legendary career. Johnny assembled a cast of musical cohorts who share his vision and approach.

Just a Bit Further, Trinom3's second release, brings together the various music styles that have inspired the band throughout their formative years. Masters of progressive rock, jazz, r&b/pop and film scores, Mike Clinco, John Van Tongeren and Kendall Kay are most certainly the musically eclectic gentlemen.

MAKE YOUR MOVE - Pianist Ray Gallon's debut recording, Make Your Move, certified, approved and endorsed by the legendary Ron Carter, who contributed the liner notes, comes to us after more than three decades of Gallon plying his trade on stages and in studios around the world with the cr�me-de-la-creme of jazz. The NYC native (born in 1958), and longtime professor (currently a full-time faculty member of the BFA Jazz Program at The City College of New York), finally leaps into the fray as a bandleader with a stellar debut, featuring his favorite trio of first-call drummer Kenny Washington (the "Jazz Maniac") and the much sought-after mainstay on the scene, bassist David Wong (Roy Haynes, The Heath Brothers, Clark Terry, Illinois Jacquet, Benny Green, Eric Reed, Wynton Marsalis, and many others).
