Drummer Joel Haynes leads his working trio with guest tenorist Seamus Blake at this cooking gig at Cory Weeds' Cellar Jazz Club back in early February. What a fun night this must have been! The working group of Haynes with pianist Tilden Webb and Jodi Proznick plays together like the Celtics defense-absolutely air tight. All the tunes are originals, and the band is able to explore the chordal nuances in the company of an appreciative audience. Driven by the leader with his crisp stick work, the opening "Transitions" has an irresistibly catchy melody sets the tone for an intense evening

PJ Perry joins forces with another Canadian icon bassist/composer Neil Swainson to write 8 brand new compositions. Joining Perry is an all-star Canadian band made up of long-time friends and contemporaries: Bob Tildesley - trumpet, Chris Andrew - piano Paul Johnston - bass and Dave Laing - drums. The result is a thoughtful and swinging affair. PJ Perry is a national treasure.

Jason Marshall returns with an incredibly soulful date featuring some of New York's finestincluding pianist Marc Cary, bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer Willie Jones III. Recorded at the studios of Rudy Van Gelder in Englewood Cliffs New Jersey and produced by Jeremy Pelt. Jason has developed a style that encompasses the whole of African-American music.
