Third Practice is an annual festival of new electro-acoustic music and mixed media presented by the Department of Music and the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond. + Since 2001, the festival has presented works for instruments and computer, video and stereo, and multi-channel works for fixed media. + “Commissions and Premieres” was originally released in 2004, with three of its tracks being recorded in 2002/03.

As the Fischer Duo, Ms. Kierman and Mr. Fischer have concertized around the U.S. for almost forty years. Jeanne Kierman Fischer specializes in contemporary American piano music and has presented solo recitals throughout North America. Norman Fischer is the former cellist of the Concord String Quartet.

This is a great collection of works from Spain and Mexico for mezzo-soprano and marimba. The compositions date from the mid-19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.

Soprano Kyoung Cho is a teacher and singer of international recognition. Music critics praised her performances as "Sublimely beautiful, transcendent, serene, dazzling, and heavenly". Dr. Cho holds degrees from Yonsei University, Manhattan School of Music, University of Memphis, Yale University and Israel International Vocal Institute.

Kraft has filled his life and the lives of others with music through his prodigious career as composer, educator, writer on musical topics, and as an author of numerous books on music theory. The majority of his work is chamber music and he composes for orchestra, piano, vocal, band and electronic. This recording offers a fine cross-section of his music.

Canadian Soprano Shannon Mercer sings a stunning account of Les Nuits. Norbert Pelej is a contemporary composer who writes works of unusual depth. Group of 27 is a first-rate Canadian chamber orchestra.

This exquisite collection of Italian and Spanish music for Vihuela de Mano – a guitar-shaped instrument with six double or paired strings common to Spain, Italy and Portugal in the 15th – 16th centuries – is played by Italian lutenist and vihuelist Massimo Marchese (b. 1965), a specialist in this repertoire. + Mr. Marchese has been an active recitalist both as soloist and ensemble member since 1980.

Hailing from Philadelphia, composer/ pianist Dan Schlosberg has had works premiered by the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Encompass New Opera Theater, counter)induction, the Lorelei Ensemble, and New Triad for Collaborative Arts. Daniel graduated with a B.A. from Yale University in 2010. He has won awards and honors from Yale, ASCAP, ACO, and NFAA.
