This intriguing album is filled with compositions written “for chamber ensembles with news broadcasts transformed.” The works on this release are from composer David Evan Jones. Jones has written for chamber opera, chamber music, computer music, and contemporary music theory. He frequently focuses his work around the structural relationships between phonetics and music. All of the works on this release were composed within the last six years, and each has a unique instrumentation, even utilizing world instruments like the Korean flute and the Korean zither.

This is the third volume of Centaur's integral edition of the complete Pieces de Clavecin of Francois Couperin, performed on harpsichord by Mark Kroll, who has made a specialty of this literature. Mark Kroll has been acclaimed as one of the world’s leading harpsichordists and fortepianists. During a career spanning more than fifty years, he has performed on four continents, winning critical praise for his expressive playing and virtuosity. He has appeared with noted soloists and ensembles, played under the batons of conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Sir Simon Rattle, James Levine, Kurt Masur and Charles Dutoit, and has served as harpsichordist for the Boston Symphony since 1979.

This release is entirely compositions for flute and piano, composed in the second half of the 20th and 21st centuries. All of these works are recorded by Patricia Surman and Kostas Chardas. Patricia Surman is a Yamaha performing artist, has an activie solo chamber and orchestral flutist. She attends and gives masterclasses regularly around the world. She joined the Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty and enjoys teaching students the joys of the flute. Aaron Copland's Duo for Flute and Piano as well as Lukas Foss's Three American Pieces for Flute and Piano can be heard on this album.

Composer and Pianist Leon Gurvitch offers an evocative program of his own works for solo piano, along with works by Faure, Satie, and Piazzolla. The program weaves beautifully between the different composers to make for an unusually satisfying album. The pianist, composer, arranger and author of more than 300 compositions Leon Gurvitch lives in Germany and founded his ensemble “Leon Gurvitch Project” in 2000, with whom he has perfected his idea of a combination of European standards of jazz and a stylish cross World Music. In his compositions and arrangements of jazz songs he combines modern elements with klezmer and folk sounds from the Balkans and Russia, as well as accents of Latin America and the Orient.

Andrew Rudin is truly one of the pioneers of original classical music composed for and performed on Synthesizer. The works on this album date back as far as 1966, at the very beginning of the era of the synthesizer. Rudin’s reputation was established in the 1960’s through his association with Robert Moog and a pioneering series of synthesized compositions, most notably his Nonesuch album, Tragoedia. Throughout the 1970’s many of his compositions were theatrical in nature, involving collaborations with ballet and modern dance, film, television, and incidental music for the stage. His one-act opera, The Innocent was produced in Philadelphia in 1972 by Tito Capobianco. A number of these works blended electronically synthesized sound with traditional instruments and voices. Particularly of note among these works is the inclusion of his music in the soundtrack of the film Fellini: Satyricon. Among the dance groups and choreographers with whom he has worked are Dance Theatre Workshop, Jeff Duncan, Murray Louis, The Pennsylvania Ballet, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Louis Falco, and four collaborations with Alwin Nikolais. The 1980’s saw the completion of his full-evening opera Three Sisters, on a libretto by William Ashbrook from the play by Chekhov, as well as many works for traditional instruments, both orchestral and chamber music. After his graduation from The University of Pennsylvania, where he studied primarily with George Rochberg, he joined the faculty of The Philadelphia Musical Academy, remaining there for the next thirty-seven years, as it eventually became part of the present University of the Arts.

This release showcases the works of Dinos Constantinides performed by The Louisiana Sinfonietta. The Louisiana Sinfonietta is an independent, nonprofit organization, wholly supported by its patrons and state and local grants. It emerged in the early 1980's as a core of the Baton Rouge Symphony, becoming a chamber orchestra with the composer himself, Dinos Constantinides as its conductor. Several world premieres of works by the Louisiana composers have been part of its repertoire. It may also be noted that with the support of its first president, Cecilia Franklin, the orchestra became an independent organization in 1990. The ensemble continues to be composed of very skillful, talented, and enthusiastic young local musicians devoted to presenting exciting concerts of mostly baroque and contemporary music for listeners to enjoy.

Since winning first place at teh First International Clarinet Competition in Cracow, Poland in 1994, Rebecca Rischim has established an international reputation as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, teacher and scholar. As a recitalist and concerto soloist, she has performed with orchestras and at international clarinet festivals in England, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Canada and the United States. Rischin is currently Professor of Clarinet at Ohio University, where she received the 2002 College of Fine Arts Outstanding Teacher Award and was nominated for the university-wide Presidential Teacher Award. Here she performs alongside pianist Youmee Kim, a fellow Professor at Ohio University.

On this new release, Lilia Boyadjieva presents a programme of works by J. S. Bach, including his famous Goldberg Variations. Born and educated in Sofia, Bulgaria, Lilia Boyadijeva completed her studies at the Moscow Conservatory "P. I. Tchaikovsky," with Professor T. D. Gutman. Her awards at international piano competitions include prizes at Senigallia (Italy - 1979), Vianna da Motta (Portugal - 1983), Maria Callas (Greece - 1985) and more. Lilia Boyadjieva pursues a brilliant soloist career mainly in Europe. Invited by prestigious Festivals (Montpellier, Auvers-sur-Oise, Sofia, Athens, Dublin) she performs in recitals as a soloist, with orchestras and with chamber music ensembles in various countries. Radio and television organizations in different countries often broadcast her concerts. Very appreciated for her teaching abilities, she has taught at the Sofia Musical Academy, in Athens and Paris (CNR, Schola Cantorum). She gives numerous master classes in Greece, France and the U.S.

The Schubert Impromptus Op. 90 and Sonata in B-flat Major are two of the greatest of Schubert's piano works. Winner of major competitions, Alexander Kobrin gives magisterial performances of these great works. For his new release, pianist Lucas Wong has chosen a program of major works by Couperin and Rameau. Praised for his "masterful, pleasure-giving performances," (Fanfare Magazine) and musical achievements "prodigious enough to constitute the careers of at least two or three people," Canadian pianist Lucas Wong is equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue, and r�p�titeur. His repertoire covers harpsichord, piano, and extended keyboard techniques. His expertise in French music interpretation has led to his own Mostly Debussy lecture-recital series, publication about "Humour in Late Debussy" in The Musical Times, and highly acclaimed recordings and performances of pieces by Couperin, Rameau, Chabrier, and Debussy.

This new jazz album features original tracks by Andrew Beals and Chris Morrison, plus the hit "What the World Needs Now Is Love," made famous by Burt Bacharach. Andrew Beals broke into the jazz scene when he joined legendary jazz organist Jack McDuff and the Heatin' System in 1986 His fourteen-year tenure with that group was marked by a busy performance schedule, touring in North America and Europe. He began his recording career as a leader with the album "Gravy Train." He has since appeared as a leader of his own band and as a featured soloist at many renowned jazz clubs and festivals. Chris Morrison, who is the son of jazz guitarist Allen Morrison, began performing early in his life with jazz organists Richard McCrae, Bobby Buster, and Eddie Buster. Chris was fortunate to study with jazz guitarists Sal Salvador, Don Neary and Joe Diorio, arranger Bill Finegan, and pianists Charlie Banacos, Garry Dial and Mike Longo. He holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase.

The Powers Woodwind Quintet is made up of music faculty members at Central Michigan University. The group performs and gives workshops around Michigan and across the midwest. The group was founded in 1963, and the members play in many other groups including the Grand Rapids Symphony, Swannanoa Chamber Players, and more. The current lineup of the group is MaryBeth Minnis, Bruce Bonnell, Joanna Cowan White, Kennen White, and Lindabeth Binkley. For this release, the group has chosen rarely recorded works by Ronald Roseman, Gustav Mahler, Endre Szervanszky, Thomas Christian David, and Henk Badings.

This new release features two works for violin and cello: Zoltan Kodaly’s Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7, and Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello. Cellist Jeffrey Lastrapes and violinist Kristen Yon perform these works with assurance and ease.

Petite Delights: Romantic Music for Flute and Harp features flutist Cynthia Ellis and harpist Michelle Temple. Cynthia Ellis is the solo piccolo player with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and served as Principal Flute for the Opera Pacific Orchestra between the years 1995 and 2009. Michelle Temple is also a member of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and has been since 1994. She has also been principal harp with the Santa Barbara Symphony since 1991. For this program, the duo has chosen pieces from Debussy, Gaubert, Glinka, Saint-Saens, Ravel, Ibert, and more.

Dr. Karen Dannessa and Henry Grabb, Profs. of Clarinet and Oboe respectively at West Chester Univ. in PA, are heard as Duo del Sol on Windward, which hosts the work of six distinctive, American contemporary composers: David Loeb, Matthew Herman, Jason Haney, the Costa Rican-born Alejandro Argüello, PA native Joseph Gregorio and Mark Rimple, a fellow WCU Professor. Dr. Dannessa is an active performer whose playing has been described as “... magical... with a full, centered, silky tone...” (The Clarinet) Mr. Grabb’s playing has been noted for being “… intensely personal, as if it were sung.”
