By the time Chick Corea - the venerated 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master - went into Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles to record the third album with his Elektric Band, the lineup had been solidified through constant touring the previous year. Dedicated to his father Armando, a trumpeter who led a Dixieland band in Boston in the 1930s and 1940s, Eye of the Beholder reflected a tightening of the ensemble playing and a greater showcasing of the individual solo prowess of these consummate musicians. With this fresh sounding five-star recording, it is clear that Corea was more open to showcasing this band's collective muscle and individual virtuosity. The group rips, in no uncertain terms, on showcases like "Cascade, Part II," "Trance Dance," and the staggering "Amnesia." There are experimental excursions into the kind of atmospheric, ambient music realms that Brian Eno pioneered on "Cascade, Part 1" and may be the most profound musical statement of the collection, on par with past Corea high points, "Beauty." Originally released on GRP Records in 1988, the album is a high-water mark for Corea and his Elektric Bandmates.

Beneath the Mask marks a return to the more commercially viable jazz-funk of the Chick Corea Elektric Band's earlier albums, and marks the end of the first stage in the band's history, which began five years earlier with the group's self-titled debut. Energy meets craft on this superlative outing, which finds the five virtuoso musicians (Chick Corea, drummer Dave Weckl, bassist John Patitucci, guitarist Frank Gamble, and saxophonist Eric Marienthal) engaging in a highly sophisticated yet accessible set of music. Massive in the scale of the influences it contains, the album travels from the heavy grooving funk-fusion of the title track "Beneath the Mask," to the lively West African township jive of "One of Us Over 40." to the mellow smooth jazz of "A Wave Goodbye," and the grandiose '70s style prog-rock/fusion of "Charged Particles." Originally released on GRP Records in 1991, the album reflects the innovative spirit of The Elektric Band, pushing boundaries and creating a unique sonic landscape that captivates listeners.

Forever Yours: The Farewell Performance captures highlights from two transcendent solo-piano concerts given just four months before the jazz icon Chick Corea's passing. Made at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL in October 2020, they would be the last public concerts Corea ever gave. Not long after these performances, his health suddenly declined, and in February 2021 the world lost one of it's greatest musicians. These recordings stand as both a deeply affecting goodbye and a definitive document of the Chick Corea solo piano experience. The listener is treated to Corea's signature cascading virtuosity, technical command, and harmonic knowledge. Featuring original music ("Armando's Rhumba," a mini-recital of Children's Songs) alongside homages to some of the composers he cherished, like Monk, Powell, and Ellington. The record reflects the generosity and empathy at the core of his music. Throughout the program, Corea's uncut spoken interludes find him introducing tunes and explaining concepts in his affable, familial way, as if chatting with old friends. Mixed and mastered by long time collaborator Birnie Kirsch and presented as a 2 disc LP set in a gatefold sleeve and includes the bonus track "Pannonica". With liner notes featuring heartfelt messages from well known admirers like Alicia Keys, Herbie Hancock, Hans Zimmer, Bobby McFerrin, Stanley Clarke, Lang Lang, and more. An essential release, it is a fine and fitting end to an astounding career.

For The Elektric Band's fourth outing, Chick Corea - the venerated 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master - decided to push the envelope even further than on previous albums. Writing for the band's individual strengths, Corea went full throttle on Inside Out. Here we find the Elektric Band engaging in uptempo burners, prog-rock fantasia, Latin-tinged grooves and the kind of complex and characteristic tight harmonies and unisons that characterized Corea's earlier compositions of the 1970s. There is are highly orchestrated aesthetic pieces like "Make a Wish, Part 1," "Stretch It, Part 1," the driving, Latinesque swinger of "Make a Wish, Part 2," the intricate stop-time vehicle "Kicker" and the epic 20-minute, four part suite, "Tales of Daring." Notably one of Corea's most complex and demanding compositions. Originally released on GRP Records in 1990, the album reflects the innovative spirit of The Elektric Band, pushing boundaries and creating a unique sonic landscape that captivates listeners.

In 1993 Chick Corea - the venerated 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master - unveiled the second incarnation of the Elektric Band. With the brand new lineup of guitarist Mike Miller, bassist Jimmy Earl and drummer Gary Novak, and saxophonist Eric Marienthtal (the lone holder over from the first iteration of the Elektric Band,) Corea, approached this ambitious outing in the same way he had done everything throughout his career, by pushing the boundaries of what modern jazz is. With material written with these specific players in mind, Corea gathered this group of remarkably flexible musicians into Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles. Recorded almost entirely live in first takes, the album is notable for it's "less is more" approach to Corea's particular style of genre bending composition. Though the focus may have been more on acoustic piano than synths, the same proficiency, spontaneity, impeccable execution and jaw-dropping display of chops that characterize the five first Elektric Band albums applies. Of special note here is the inclusion of the track "Final Frontier", originally released exclusively on the Japanese and European editions. This all out burner is the lone tune on the record featuring Corea on a synthesizer. Written as an answer to "Got A Match" from 1986's The Chick Corea Elektric Band album, it's an uptempo showcase for the players to stretch out and the kind of track that exemplifies the jazz fusion that Corea and his groups came to define.

Double vinyl LP pressing housed in gatefold jacket. For The Elektric Band's sophomore outing, Chick Corea - the venerated 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master - entered the studio with Dave Weckl on drums, John Patitucci on bass, and two new players who would solidify the band's classic line up, guitarist Frank Gambale and saxophonist Eric Marienthal. More heavily produced than it's predecessor, Light Years contains several sequence-driven tracks, Corea's attempt at reaching out to a wider audience with a brand of music that was tighter, funkier and eminently more communicative than he had recorded on 1986's The Chick Corea Elektric Band. The crisp, irrepressibly catchy title track is a prime example of Corea's more commercial aspirations for the album, with Patitucci laying down a fat, funky groove with some hearty slap bass lines (a distinct flavor of the time), and Marienthal's pungent alto sax strutting over the top. Not only did this groove-oriented track catch on with listeners, it also won a Grammy for Best R&B Instrumental Performance at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards. Originally released on GRP Records in 1987, the album also contains the dreamy contemporary jazz offerings of "Second Sight" and "The Dragon," the sequence-driven "Time Track", "Flamingo," featuring Carlos Rios on guitar and, the electrifying, techno tour de force, highly complex closer, "Kaleidoscope."
