Rudolf Serkin - "The Lost Tapes - Beethoven: Piano Sonat" / In the first of a fascinating new series - The Lost Tapes - the Strategic Repertoire Team (formally known as the Heritage Team, formally known as the Catalogue Team) is releasing Rudolf Serkin's final Beethoven recordings: The 'Waldstein' (1986) and 'Appassionata' (1989) sonatas. On the occasion of Rudolf Serkin's 120th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing Serkin's last Beethoven recordings for the first time: The two piano sonatas "Waldstein" and "Appassionata", recorded in 1986 and 1989. Due to Serkin's advanced illness, he was unable to finally approve the tapes at the time. This release of the great Beethoven pianist has now been made possible thanks to the support of Serkin's daughter Judith Serkin, who also contributed a personal text for the booklet. The recording presents a very personal, wise and tender reading of Beethoven. In addition to numerous photos, the booklet also includes recording protocol and a letter to the recording producer.

The Freiburger Barockorchester and Deutsche Grammophon launch their new creative partnership with an album of works associated with the celebrated Mannheim court orchestra. Mozart's Mannheim couples little-known gems by Cannabich, Holzbauer, Vogler and others with works written by Mozart during his formative visit to Mannheim.

Lucas Jussen / Arthur Jussen - "Dutch Masters" - Pianists Lucas & Arthur Jussen have announced their upcoming new studio album Dutch Masters. The album will be released on DG & is dedicated to Dutch composers. "Everyone knows Bach, Mozart or Beethoven, but we also have plenty of lesser-known composers from our home country who have created a lot of beautiful compositions", they say. The album is an ode to the Dutch composers, but also to pianist & teacher Ton Hartsuiker, who introduced them to Dutch modern music when they were still children.

Lang Lang joins forces with his wife, pianist Gina Alice, the Gewandhausorchester and the conductor Andris Nelsons Saint-Saens's "Grand Zoological Fantasy" for two pianos and orchestra. This special version includes readings of the much-loved comic verses written to accompany each movement of the work by American poet Ogden Nash (1902-1971). First voiced by Noel Coward on a recording issued in 1950, Nash's poems are here narrated by comedian and Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.

Vinyl LP pressing. As well as solo piano pieces, 'the skies: rarities' includes one track for choir and electronics ("Patterned Ground"), and one for string orchestra ("Breaking The Surface"), for which the instrumentalists of Scoring Berlin were asked to both play from the score and improvise. Guitarist Jon Goddard, meanwhile, appears on "Into Silence," giving the track what Eno calls "a particular flavor it would otherwise have lacked."
