This album is a sequel to Flute Vocalise (DDV24156) issued earlier in2013. It is a lovely collection of popular classics, arranged for flute and piano by Smith, Rhodes and others. Most tracks were previously issued on ASV, but have been expertly remastered and include some new tracks.

Bach's Art of Fugue is a great musical enigma; left strangely unfinished, it is thought perhaps to have been intended not for performance but as a definitive guide to the writing of fugues, or a personal musical message meant as the composer's greatest legacy in any event it is a supreme masterpiece and here is given a brilliant and individual interpretation, in which Diana Boyle (whose Metier CD of the 48 Preludes and Fugues, Book II is also highly praised) brings out classical-style emphasis and phrasing, bring the music alive more than in traditional dry and academic accounts. The recording omits the optional 'canons' but includes the 'Inversus' sections of Contrapuncti 12 and 13.

The Mazurka is one of the classic Polish folk dances subsequently turned into an art-music form. + This recital by Russian pianist Alexander Kostritsa tracks the Mazurka’s evolution from its simple and short form as composed by Maria Szymanowska (the first composer to write Mazurkas for piano), through to its highest artistic elevation by Chopin before its full late-Romantic flowering in the hands of Szymanowski. + Mr. Kostritsa has performed as soloist in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, South Korea and the US. + He currently lives and works in Cleveland, OH.

Beethoven's three most famous sonatas have received hundreds of recordings. Why another, especially from a company like Divine Art which usually avoids duplicating repertoire? Because we believe that each piece of music demands a performance tailored to the composition, and that recently, every recording of a major work seems to sound the same. Beethoven's sonatas are fiery, storm-filled works which require playing not only of consummate skill but also total passion and commitment. Husband and wife team Robert and Linda Stoodley are an adventurous duo with a very wide range of repertoire from the pops to major classical works which they present to appreciative audiences all around the world, spending much time as recitalists on cruise ships. This new album features a programme of French music, including Debussy’s well known Petite Suite and the superb First Sonata for Piano Duet by George Onslow, contemporary of the young Mozart and on this showing an equal in compositional skill. Add to that Poulenc’s ‘Songs of Love and War’ arranged by Linda into a new suite of pieces, and we have a very entertaining and instructive album beautifully played. This is the first recording of the Poulenc Suite in this arrangement.

Though published as Bach's Opus 1, the Partitas were composed as Bach was approaching 40 and working in Leipzig. Their varied and changeable movement styles differentiate them considerably from the structure of works such as the French and English Suites, which are otherwise like sets of dance movements. Judith Lambden is a well established Australian pianist with a long-established reputation as an interpreter of Bach. In this, her first CD for Divine Art, she gives US all a chance to re-evaluate splendid works which (in terms of Bach's output) are relatively little known. At almost 80 minutes on each CD, a true high-value set at les than mid-price.

This third double CD set completes Gilbert Rowland's survey of these Handel's groundbreaking solo keyboard music, works that began to free the form from the formal constraints of Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gigue. This album of Mozart Sonatas is presented by pianist Diana Boyle. This two-disc set contains eight of the beloved composer’s piano sonatas, perfected by Boyle at her secluded hilltop home in Portugal. These works were recorded in England in 2014.

"This is the debut album from Quebec-based Trio de l’Île, a young ensemble of exceptional talent, comprising Uliana Drugova (violin), Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy (cello) and Patil Harboyan (piano). The group was founded in 2015, and the three members have all enjoyed success in their careers to date, as performers and teachers. The Piano Trio in F sharp minor (1952) by Armenian composer Arno Babadjanian (1921-1983) is widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of the genre; the Andante a particularly beautiful and much-loved melody.. The work is joined by another Armenian piece, the trio (1945) by Gayané Chebotaryan (1918-1998), which has stronger inspiration from the Armenian folk inflections familiar in the music of Khachaturian as well as the Russian classical tradition. As a contrast we have the ‘Four Seasons of Buenos Aires’ from 1960 by Argentinian legend Astor Piazzolla, the composer who revolutionized the tango, turning it from a steamy dance into a true art form. Lively, exotic and highly rhythmic, these pieces embody the Latin spirit totally. The arrangement for piano trio is by cellist José Bragato, a member of Piazzolla’s own Octet."

Vyacheslav Artyomov is considered by many to be Russia’s greatest living composer. His music is deep, ultimately spiritual and brilliantly crafted, with influences from the Russian symphonic tradition colored by Mahler, Scriabin, Honegger and Messiaen to name a few – but melded into a unique voice. The Divine Art Artyomov Retrospective is a mix of new recordings and former Melodiya releases. This is the eighth instalment, containing three orchestral works, with an over-arching sorrowful cast – remembering, like his Requiem, the suffering of the Russian peoples under Soviet rule (and for In Memoriam, a tribute to the composer’s mother), and all typifying Artyomov’s true genius as a truly individual composer who can make thoroughly modern music listenable and demanding further regular hearings. Three fine orchestras and conductors, and superb soloists, provide a rich and satisfying program of substantial modern orchestral music.

This album features one of the top names in European modern jazz, sax player Uwe Steinmetz, in a program of his own compositions and arrangements for jazz soloist with string quartet. This smooth and enthralling new sound is founded on 'straight playing' by Fitzwilliams, overlaid by solo work from Steinmetz and violinist Mads Tolling that ranges from original composed lines to free improvisation.

Natalia Andreeva is a Russian pianist who is currently Lecturer in Piano at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her 2015 recording of the music of Galina Ustvolskaya was very well received, and like that album, this new recording of better-known classical and Romantic works is the result of many years of study, developing her own mental picture of these masterpieces and of what the composers were trying to communicate. Though there is a Beethoven sonata here, probably the best known work is Prokofiev’s Second; with the Scriabin sonata the three paint different aspects of the Romantic movement from beginning to near its ‘end’ and the disc is completed with a bonus work: Debussy’s Estampes, which shows yet another type of romanticism, this time the impressionist form. This is one of two linked releases, the other featuring Preludes and Fugues for the piano, from Bach, Liszt, Franck and Shostakovich (bonus tracks from Rachmaninoff) and they provide two fine recital-style programs of essential classics.
