Vyacheslav Artyomov is considered by many to be Russia’s greatest living composer. His music is deep, ultimately spiritual and brilliantly crafted, with influences from the Russian symphonic tradition colored by Mahler, Scriabin, Honegger and Messiaen to name a few – but melded into a unique voice. The Divine Art Artyomov Retrospective (which to date has received wonderful reviews internationally) is a mix of new recordings and former Melodiya releases. This is the ninth instalment, which comprises six works for varying chamber ensembles, and while embodying the composer’s overall wide ranging compositional style, spirituality and mysticism, these pieces express this in a more intimate, lyrical style than his massive symphonic works. ‘Scenes’ was originally written as a ballet score for a film, but as the movie was banned by the Soviet authorities and never shown, the work now stands in its own right as a balletic suite.

This album is taken from live performances in England between 2000 and 2005 by Russian pianist Sergei Dukachev and includes the Second and Seventh Sonatas, Visions Fugitives, and extracts from the composer's piano transcription of 'Romeo and Juliet'. Dukachev is gaining an enthusiastic following in the UK as well as in his native Russia, and the brilliance of these concert performances demonstrates why.

McLachlan is one of the established Camilleri specialists; performer and composer worked together on this CD of music (first recordings in each case) some of which was especially written for this disc. Camilleri's music is very special - atmospheric, mystical but also full of life and vigour.

This CD fulfils a long held ambition of Trevor Barnard who, following his pioneering recording of the Bliss Concerto in 1962, vowed someday to complete the double by recording the superb Sonata. Coupled with the amazing Preludes, these works deserve to be much better known. In early 2000 we re-issued that 1962 recording which Trevor made with the Philharmonia under Sir Malcolm Sargent. As a composer Donald Swann was more prolific, more varied, than might be imagined from those who only know him as half of the Flanders and Swann comedy duo. Fascinated by the Greek islands and particularly Casos, on which he found both peace and disquiet, he used Greek folksong and popular melodies as the basis for these joyful yet thoughtful songs, orchestrated by John Jansson. BONUS: The Casos Sonnets, which form a separate subset, were never performed in Donald's lifetime. We are very fortunate to have secured a tape of these pieces, made by Donald for his own use on his beloved Bluthner piano at his Battersea home, and this CD includes this rare and valuable recording.

Most of the piano works of McCunn (whose operas are being rediscovered), McEwen, and Mackenzie, who is acknowledged to be one of Elgar's main influences, are on this disc, all for the first time. Two of the finest modern works for guitar - John Tavener's "Chant" and Alan Rawsthorne's "Elegy" which, with Terence Croucher's piece of the same name gives the title to this collection - appear with music from several of Britain's most accomplished composers for the instrument. Jonathan's fourth recording, and his first for Divine Art, presents works with which he has a special affinity and demonstrates why these compositions deserve a wider audience. The first recording for some twenty years by a performer whose pioneering version of the Bliss Piano Concerto for EMI in the 1960s (now re-issued on Divine Art 24106) drew undiluted praise. Trevor plays the great Bach/Busoni transcriptions, Myra Hess' version of Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and (for the first time on CD) works by Australian composers Margaret Sutherland Felix Werder and Nigel Butterley.

Rediscovered gems from the 18th Century, these secular (or profane) cantatas tell of nymphs and shepherds cavorting around the fields of ancient Greece. Concert Royal are one of Britain's longest-established authentic performance ensembles, playing period instruments, and this was their (and Divine Art's) first CD.

Performances which are both polished and committed, from this amazing choir, including a few well known sacred pieces by Durufle, Stainer, Stanford; new works by brilliant Scots composer Martin Dalby, a gem from John Tavener, and a selection of traditional Scottish songs in super new arrangements by Ken Johnson.

When it was originally released in 1995, this album was the very first to be devoted to works for cello ensemble, a genre which has since become much more popular. The release includes mainly works of the Romantic school, with gorgeous melodies and rich harmonies from the four cellos, for example in the Mainardi Notturno and the works by Marie Dare. Many of the pieces here were first recordings and these still remain the only recordings for some. Variety is provided by neo-classical pieces by Rodrigo and Aeschbacher, and the classical-period Trio by Cervetto. Cello Spice was an ensemble of four leading cellists from Scottish orchestras, including Gillian Copp, Alison Lawrance, John Davidson and Mark Bailey, now best known for his work with the Edinburgh Quartet.

London-based composer Matt Dibble completed his 24 Preludes and Fugues for solo piano in 2021, just weeks before his untimely and tragic death due to complications following the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccination. A much loved and admired musician working in many genres, Matt continues to be sorely missed by many on the classical, jazz and pop scenes. The Preludes and Fugues show his extraordinary flair for invention in many different styles, from neo-Baroque to jazz and pop, via modernism. The set represents a deeply personal undertaking, written over six years, and known only to his family and a handful of close friends and colleagues. Matt's dream performer for such a wide-ranging work was the internationally renowned pianist Freddy Kempf, and he would have been thrilled to know that Kempf gladly took the project on. With Paul Baily producing, Kempf recorded the project in the summer of 2022 at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, York. Although he never met the composer, Kempf said, "It really feels like some of the values that Matt paid most attention to match my own". And his interpretation does indeed display a profound and moving understanding of the work. Later this year, one of the pieces will be included on the repertoire list for Trinity College London piano exams, bringing this deeply personal music to pianists all over the world.
