Three works by Polish composers of great stature: the music of Karol Szymanowski is now very well known; he was responsible for the first real flowering of Polish music after Chopin, developing from the Romantic to expressionism to modernism. His Op. 9 violin sonata is his earliest chamber composition, written when he was 22 and found immediate success with audiences of not all of the critics at the time. Andrzej Panufnik, who later became a British citizen, is also an early work and as his Op. 1 (he did not give opus numbers to any other work) symbolizes the beginning of his great career. Elements of modernism, Romanticism and jazz inspire this superb work. It is heard here in the composer's revised version from 1977. For Grazyna Bacewicz, chamber music played a very important role alongside concert works; she summed up the 200 years from Chopin to Rachmaninoff as a great virtuoso composer and performer - on both violin and piano. The fourth piano sonata is generally considered her greatest - described by one critic as 'contemporary Brahms'.

His organ compositions come in many styles, from liturgical models, to more gritty and substantial pieces such as his organ symphonies and preludes and fugues. Much of the music here, tonal and accessible though never lacking in complex chromaticism, was written for and dedicated to the German composer Andreas Willscher whose works Cooman is also recording for Divine Art. Erik Simmons is a fine organist, making his sixth Cooman organ album for Divine Art. He is playing the Cavaille-Coll organ of the Abbey of Saint-Etienne, Caen, France in a live performance recorded through the Hauptwerk system. This is volume 6 of this highly praised series.

Peter Lea-Cox is an English composer of various genres. This album includes a wide selection of his vocal works mainly with a sacred theme. His style is mostly traditional, but he is not afraid to use daring harmonies and dissonances as each composition is neatly and carefully crafted to best express the chosen text.

Jennings was born in Sheffield, England in 1972 and was taught chiefly by Casken. His works are in a variety of musical genres from piano miniatures to large orchestral pieces. An appreciation for the landscape of the North of England has left a positive mark on Jennings's music, which aims to recreate it's sense of timelessness. This disc gathers together all Jennings' piano music composed between 1985 and 2010 and offers his complete works for the instrument to date.

Vyacheslav Artyomov is considered by many to be Russia's greatest living composer. After the fall of the Soviet regime his music has travelled the world to great acclaim. It is deep, ultimately spiritual and brilliantly crafted, with influences from the Russian symphonic tradition colored by Mahler, Scriabin, Honegger and Messiaen to name a few - but melded into a unique voice. John McCabe was almost a legend in his own lifetime, acknowledged as one of the foremost British composers of our time and also as a brilliant pianist who championed the work of many contemporary composers. Following his recent death, 19 composers wrote pieces in tribute for an ensemble of clarinet, recorder, viola and piano (and variations of the mix) which are now collected into this album which is lovingly dedicated to John’s memory and also to his widow Monica, who was a tireless support and who now works to promote his musical legacy and we are grateful for her contributions to this project. This recording features music by two German composers: Raimund Sch�cher (b.1960) and Andreas Willscher (b.1955). Each composer is represented by three varied, yet characteristic, pieces. Raimund Sch�cher's years of work as an editor of late medieval and early Renaissance keyboard music show in the free modality and early-influenced forms of his compositions. Andreas Willscher's deep interest in French romanticism and eclectic musical interests (drawing on both classical and non-classical sources) are displayed in his pieces. Carson Cooman (b.1982) is an American composer with a catalog of hundreds of works in many forms-ranging from solo instrumental pieces to operas, and from orchestral works to hymn tunes. His music has been performed on all six inhabited continents. As an active concert organist, Cooman specializes in the performance of contemporary music. Over 300 new works have been composed for him by composers from around the world, and his organ performances can be heard on a number of recordings of which this is his third for Divine Art. The recording was made on the Mathias Orgelbau instrument of 1997/2006 in the Pfarrkirche St. Peter-und-Paul, G�rlitz, Germany, in a live performance using the Hauptwerk system.
