Bosmans & Chapiro: Forgotten Voices Rediscovered / Brundibár Ensemble
A CD devoted to the music of two Dutch female composers who survived the Holocaust - Henriëtte Bosmans (1895-1952) was a Dutch half-Jewish pianist and composer and a particularly fascinating figure. Fania Chapiro (1926-1994) was a Dutch half-Jewish pianist and composer who grew up in the former Dutch Indies. This album presents three chamber music works influenced by French Impressionism and by Prokofiev.
Chopin: The poor, sad angel
A Chopin recital dated 1985 by the extraordinarily gifted young Nikolai Lugansky. To the exclusion of the Nocturne, Op. 27/2 (1835), the works on this CD were written in the years between 1841 and 1847, the ‘George Sand chapter’ in the Chopin biography. "There has not been a genius deeper and richer in feelings and emotions than Chopin", writes George Sand in her Histoire de ma vie.
Bach: The Gamba Sonatas with Harpsichord, Piano & Organ / De Carlo, Guglielmi
I see that we had met in Bach’s profound italianness, in the singing of the melodies that danced in counterpoint, in the rhythmic undulation of his writing. Although in the manuscripts the three Sonatas for Viola da Gamba are accompanied by the harpsichord, we imagined the Viola da Gamba conversing with different keyboard instruments that Bach had at his disposal: a copy of a Mietke harpsichord, a copy of a Silbermann fortepiano and the organ built by Gottfried Silbermann in 1753.
