Fleur de Son Classics is proud to release this stunning, debut recording of virtuoso Mexican guitarist, Ricardo Saeb. The program is a playlist of masterworks for the guitar, from the Spanish folkloric mannerisms in Aguado’s “Le Fandango”, to the metrical dichotomy of “Zephyr” by American guitarist/composer, Christopher Gainey (World Premiere Recording). The pieces herein comprise a collection of contrasting and continuously enthralling guitar music. Ricardo Saeb is enjoying an international concert career and we welcome him to the Fleur de Son Classics roster of distinguished recording artists.
As winner of the 2016 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, the 2013 Guitar Foundation of America Competition and more than 20 other prestigious contests around the globe, Russian guitarist Anton Baranov has established himself as one of the leading guitarists of our day. His performances in a number of distinguished halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Palau de Musica in Valencia, Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, and Hakuju Hall in Tokyo have been described by critics as “pure magic” (Cleveland Classical), and among his list of recordings, this release on Fleur de Son Classics is part of his First Prize package of the 2016 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition.
Canadian pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico now takes listeners on a musical excursion into the works of largely neglected women composers in her new album Global Sirens. The release features music by fifteen composers from the United States, Canada, Russia, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Australia, and France, written between the mid 1900s and the present. As Petrowska Quilico describes it, the selections represent "only a fraction of the scope and breadth of works that have been rarely played or forgotten, but which deserve to be heard and enjoyed." Traditional, impressionist, 12-tone, minimalist, folk, ragtime, and romantic treasures are reflected in a kaleidoscope of musical styles. "From waltzes, rags, a composition for the left hand alone, and other quirky and edgy works, women show their enormous strength and wealth of compositional creativity," says the pianist.
A monumental set of 33 variations built from a simple waltz theme by Anton Diabelli. A stunning performance of a legendary masterwork by one of the great pianists of our time. Pianist Gabriel Chodos has been a revered New England Conservatory faculty member for a quarter-century.
