The Eureka Brass Band dates from 1920, when it was organized by clarinetist Willie Parker - he reportedly chose the name under the inspiration of some acquaintances from the West Indies, who had a band they called the Eureka, as related by Richard Knowles in his 1996 history of New Orleans brass bands. The group's most famous leader was trumpet man Percy Humphrey, from 1946 onward. These sessions come from 1951, and include previously unreleased recordings. The audio was remastered for vinyl and press locally at New Orleans Record Press.

The Deep River Boys sang in a wide variety of music styles, including pop, rhythm & blues, show tunes, jazz, blues and rock & roll. Yet if there's one thing the Deep River Boys are remembered for, it's their respect for their musical roots. Like other groups that formed in Black colleges during the 1930s. The Deeps began by singing old African American spirituals. Most genres of American music, including jazz, blues, rhythm & blues and rock & roll trace their roots to spirituals, sung first by slaves in the cotton fields of the American South. Throughout their career, the Deep River Boys continued to preserve the legacy of spirituals in their authentic form and dialect, resisting the temptation to modernize them. The songs on this CD were recorded by the Deep River Boys for the Lang-Worth radio transcription company in the 1940s.

Ashby appeared on the scene as if by magic when Jimmy Hamilton retired from the Ellington Orchestra in 1968 - he was in his 40s and had been around for years but much of his early discography was with rhythm-and-blues bands. He went on his own after Duke's death and made European tours with all-star packages. This was his first session as leader for a US-based label, and he takes good advantage of the opportunity.

(2-CD set) This 34 song collection covers a large part of Danny's recording career from the early 1940s to the late 1980s. Danny was a versatile musician, comfortable in a big band, small group of any size and, uniquely, as solo artist. During the late 50s he billed himself as a one man band, working as sort of a calypso singer. Most of his many facets are covered on this compilation.

The Complete Bud Freeman contains five Freeman originals and Bud's treatments of seven great standards. These selections give us the essential Bud Freeman: inventive music with strong emotional appeal; improvisation that is individual, tasteful, and memorable. The technique is faultless, but the true value is the original music Bud makes. And right there is the point: Bud is an original - a land mark in the story of jazz. Notably, this session, produced by Bill Borden, Steve Marvin for Monmouth-Evergreen Records in December of 1969, recorded at the famous A&R Recording studios in NYC by Phil Ramone & Dave Sanders and mixed by David Greene, finds Freeman in the prime of his over 40-year recording career.
