Dutch flautist Frans Bruggen (1934-2014) was one of the main discoverers and champions of the recorder during the twentieth century, and is considered to be one of the artists that made this instrument popular and accessible to young people. His virtuosity and technique were unique, and made his performances of music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries unforgettable, showing his audiences that the recorder could be an expressive and evocative instrument. This IDIS release collects a series of very rare recordings of this great artist taken from his archives- none of these recordings have ever been released on modern mediums. This album features the first recording of the Giuseppe Sammartini Concert in F major- a masterpiece of the recorder literature- that was recorded by Bruggen with the Amsterdam Chamber Orchestra when he was only twenty-eight years old.

IDIS continues with its tradition of rediscovering the greatest Russian violinists of the 19th century. Here, they present a series of wonderful recordings performed by Boris Goldstein between 1959 and 1962 - still lesser known in the modern western world. The high esteem that Jascha Heifetz always had for this exceptional artist is well-known and the listening of this third album of the series can be considered the best so far. Listeners can appreciate a very pure sound that may be described as brightly with a various and rich vibrato, and a talent that allowed this exceptional artist to perform perfectly every single expressive nuance. Boris Golstein - an artist whose discographical career has been much too undervalued. The three recordings on this album have been carefullyr estored and are a document of incredible value for all audiences and violin lovers.

"In 1962 a young Claudio Abbado and violinist Franco Gulli (1926-2001) recorded an album dedicated to Giuseppe Tartini. The resulting album is still considered a benchmark in the Tartini discography. Franco Gulli's discography is both lengthy and extensive; it includes the 1959 premier recording of the then newly-discovered Paganini Fifth Concerto. Two moviments of the Sonata “ Il Trillo del Diavolo” recorded by Gulli in 1960 with his wife, Erica Cavallo, at the piano, round out this disc."

In 1962 in recognition 50th anniversary of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's death, Sir Malcolm Sargent recorded his Songs of Hiawatha, considered a milestone in English choral music. Also included on this recording are the Symphonic Variations of Anton�n Dvor�k recorded in1959.

Pablo de Sarasate was a successful Spanish composer and virtuosic violinist. His output for violin is indicative that this composer truly understood the nature and nuances of the instrument. Many of his compositions are still a part of the standard repertoire, including the ones presented on this album. Perhaps one of the greatest violinists of the twentieth century, Ruggeriero Ricci is best known as the first violinist to record Paganini’s 24 Carprices in their original form. These recordings were made from 1959-1961.

Franco Gulli was a violinist from Trieste and was one of the most important artists in the 20th century. This release collects three wonderful and sensational recordings that show his incredible talent and artistic greatness.

Pierre Boulez was a musician exceptionally eclectic, a composer of the vanguard of the 20th Century, he also was an incredible conductor that was able to leave his personality in the most famous pages of the erpretoire. In the Boulez's interpretation the most listened compositions seemed new and extraordinary and completely unheard. Among the authors loved by Boulez, Igor Stravinsky filled up a leading role as this live recording of Sacre du Printemps and other symphonycal operas made in Paris can attest. An album absolutely essential for all the lovers of one of the protagonists of the music of the 20th Century.
