Following the success of Impex's critically lauded 1STEP LP release of Stan Getz's cultural touchstone, they couldn't wait to present digital aficionados with their own ultimate high-quality option: The definitive Super Audio Compact Disc/Hybrid CD! For the first time ever, hear two complete versions of Getz/Gilberto: Bernie Grundman's 1STEP analog tape master-to-DSD version and a pristine new restoration/correction from Jamie Howarth at Plangent Processes. The Plangent Process corrects anomalies and repairs physical tape damage without adversely affecting the original sonic quality! Now, you can compare the original tape and the most pristine and accurate picture of the legendary recording sessions on one disc. Few recordings better capture the breezy warmth and easy-going sophistication of Brazilian bossa nova for an American jazz audience. Fewer recordings can replicate the you-are-there presence and flawlessly intimate studio acoustics. Only Getz/Gilberto has Billboard Top 10-charting singles like "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Desafinado." Finally, Impex also includes the 1STEP's two bonus tracks on the Plangent Processed version! We know you have many choices for enjoying this timeless classic. The Impex SACD/Hybrid of Getz/Gilberto sits above the digital competition with great features and incredibly lifelike sound! SACD Stereo SACD Layer Designed to Play on Standard CD Players, SACD Players & Other SACD-Capable Players
Patricia Barber's Modern Cool brought her mainstream success, propelled by her classic version of the Doors' "Light My Fire." Touring for this album, Barber played selections from it during a four-night stand at The Jazz Standard in New York. There she was heard by Bruce Lundvall of Blue Note Records, which led to a string of popular Barber recordings for both Premonition and Blue Note, worldwide touring and the unapologetic critical acclaim from which Barber never looked back. It quickly became an audiophile classic through Jim Anderson's stunningly-detailed naturalistic recording. The deluxe new package updates the stylish original design with a booklet and includes new notes from Jim Anderson and many exclusive session and tour photos from Barber photographer Valerie Booth. For a perfectly immersive experience, the 5.1 SACD layer features the same Grammy-winning surround mix master, plus a Bernie Grundman stereo remaster using Jim Anderson's original analog stereo mix master in both full-DSD and CD format.
Impex 1STEP celebrates Patricia Barber's 1999 "return" to The Green Mill, Chicago's fabled jazz club. Conceived as a "companion" to her Grammy-winning studio album Modern Cool, Companion finds Barber and her touring band in inspired form, playfully and energetically performing hits and deep tracks from her celebrated oeuvre. The dynamic interaction between the artist and her reverent audience adds a palpable sense of space and community. At the same time, the fans' hushed attention creates a studio-like sense of precision and detail. The snap and crackle of Barber, her grand piano, and her onstage partners practically leaps off the groove into your listening room! Companion's fan-favorite reputation is enhanced immeasurably by Jim Anderson's jaw-dropping, lifelike recording. Eschewing the crystalline sterility of digital recordings of the time, Anderson's sound is always warm, natural, and lacking unforced "hype." Like Anderson, Impex aims to present great recordings that are as natural as possible. And we couldn't wait to put our favorite Patricia Barber release, using Jim's analog mix-down master tapes, on 180 grams of VR900 Super Vinyl. The deep, inky black backgrounds and absence of surface noise will pull listeners right into those three evenings in 1999, capturing a seminal modern jazz artist at a creative and professional peak and reveling in a perfectly rendered and joyous audio time capsule. Finally, our deluxe Impex Treatment packages the whole party with a lovely outer slipcase, a booklet containing a new note from Patricia, and a dazzling array of photographs from the evenings by frequent Barber collaborator Valerie Booth, exclusive to our 1STEP. Heavy paper stock with spot gloss coating and a faithfully recreated exterior design will satisfy original fans and aesthetes throughout the music-loving world. 2-LP 180 gram, 45 RPM, Limited Edition of 5,000
An early TAS List recommendation, Arturo Delmoni's unparalleled artistry is captured on this near-mythical analog recording by David Hancock. Songs My Mother Taught Me was recorded by David Hancock at the Church of the Holy Trinity, New York City, on May 8-9, 1982. The sessions were jointly produced by Arturo Delmoni, David Hancock, and John Marks. Arturo Delmoni plays a violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1721. Mr. Hancock used a Studer A-80 1/2" two-track (30 i.p.s.) analog tape recorder and two Cambridge C35 ribbon microphones. No equalization or noise reduction was employed. This 24k Gold CD was made from a digital transfer from the original analog master tapes by Robert C. Ludwig of Gateway Mastering in 1994 for John Marks Records. Impex presents this rare masterpiece (which has had no official release in two decades) on pristine 24K Gold Compact Disc to dazzle a new generation of music lovers and audiophiles alike. Limited to 2, 500 individually numbered copies.
In the fall of 1960, New York City wasn't the same urban mecca it is today. Neither was eighteen-year old Barbra Streisand, who emerged on the Greenwich Village club scene at a small, cozy venue on West 8th Street called the Bon Soir, where she received rave reviews and wooed the crowd with her incredible performances. Within two years Streisand, whose magnificent interpretations of both standards and quirky, obscure cabaret tunes was a nationwide sensation, was knocking audiences dead with her nightly performance as Miss Marmelstein in David Merrick's I Can Get It For You Wholesale on Broadway. Sixty years, multiple Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Golden Globe awards and nearly two hundred million record sales later, Barbra has for the first time authorized the release of a major portion of her Bon Soir performances, as captured in 1962 by Columbia Records. IMPEX Records - in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment - is proud to present the audiophile 180-gram vinyl LP.
The 1965 release E.S.P. is often referred to as the first album of Miles Davis's second great quintet. The young guns in the quintet are superb, with Miles being pushed in new directions by Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. E.S.P. is post-bop excursion into mostly modal songs with Miles, Wayne and Herbie playing interlocking melodies that they improvise and fracture into something new. All compositions are originals by various band members. Mastered using all analog master tapes. All tube mastering by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman's Studio. Limited edition of 3,000.

Patricia Barber's 6th studio album is a fascinating collection of classic cover songs shaped by her inimitable downtempo intimacy into startlingly affective journeys through the human condition. Working with her band of the time (bassist Michael Arnopol and drummer Adam Cruz, augmented by star turns from guitarist Charlie Hunter, bassist Marc Johnson, and drummer Adam Nussbaum), Barber creates an atmosphere of austere trepidation that allows her long-time engineer Jim Anderson to hang her haunted vocals directly over top. Like all great jazz albums, Nightclub puts the highlighted artist front and center while carving out plenty of space for the supporting players to give emphatic support. Impex's 1STEP process provides the perfect showcase for Anderson's peerless audio immersions. Nightclub was originally digitally recorded on a Sony 3348 multi-track and mixed through a Neve analog console to both digital and analog mix-down masters. Bernie Grundman used the analog mix-down tapes to assemble a new analog cutting master exclusively for our 1STEP. Coupled with the incredibly detailed VR-900 vinyl formula, there is instrument detailing to spare, a Mariana Trench noise floor, and incredibly-focused low end. There is simply no better way to enjoy Barber's cool renditions of timeless classics than this one (including the exclusive, never-before-released bonus track "Wild Is the Wind"). Limited to 7,500 pressings, so preorder now before this Club closes for good.

Sometimes in the course of our exploration of potential titles to reissue, we come across a true gem that somehow escaped mainstream popularity. Our new all-analog HQ-180 of Matador by trumpeter Kenny Dorham and his quintet is the latest and perhaps most crystalline example of this. There has never been a single 180-gram pressing available. It has only been reissued (officially) once in 50 years. When you hear it, you'll scratch your head raw that this under-appreciated gem has been missing for so long. Recorded in a single day in 1962, Matador contains the sprawling epic McLean-penned "Melanie" (a suite in three parts), as well as Dorham's smoldering "El Matador" and a stirring take on "Beautiful Love". Throughout the session, Timmons, Smith, and Moses provide sublime support while Dorham and McLean trade sinewy solos. Emotional musical exploration ties to readily approachable post-bop structure that make for a snappy, yet heady, mix of tunes that put a tap in your foot while engaging your head and heart. Numbered, Limited Edition. Audiophile 33rpm 180g Vinyl LP. Mastered by Chris Bellman from the original analog master tapes. Original single disc jacket with ribbed paper tip-on over heavy-board stock. Pressed at RTI.

In our first full collaboration with jazz royalty Patricia Barber, Impex Records is thrilled to announce our premier multichannel audio SACD/Hybrid disc of her elegant new album Higher. Recorded and mixed by long-time collaborator Jim Anderson, this spectacular set contains a unique eight jazz-interpreted art-song cycle that explore the mysteries that bind and illuminate us. Barber says of her six year creation of Higher, "I feel very much that this album is a manifestation of my hard-won harmonic evolution." She continues her blending of classical and modern idioms, both musical and lyrical, into a hybrid that plays to the best of both: classically-oriented with room to improvise and expand. The Impex Records exclusive SACD version contains four additional tracks: jazz standards "Early Autumn", "Secret Love" and "In Your Own Sweet Way", along with an expanded version of "The Opera Song" featuring lyric soprano Katherine Werbiansky. Both 5.1 and 2.0 SACD layers were transferred directly to DSD from original DXD (352.8kHz / 32 bit) files for astonishing reproduction of every living note and subtle expression in this truly seminal work by one of America's finest jazz auteurs. Few things get music fans more excited than the discovery of long-lost recordings of the past-especially if they present unique meetings between legendary artists. Such is certainly the case with Impex's new 180-gram 2-LP set Bennet/Brubeck Live 1962, The White House Sessions. Two remarkable visionaries at the peak of their powers, Dave Brubeck and his quartet and Tony Bennett (both with his group and with Bennett with trio) give hot performances of some of their biggest hits: Brubeck's revved up "Take Five," Tony Bennett's soulful "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," and both together on the hard-swinging "Lullaby of Broadway.
